Then start with her first album, Control (), and just go from there. It makes you realize how natural her evolution was, both musically, lyrically, and emotionally.
Stick with it! You'll be so grateful in no time. Janet's best albums are absolutely CINEMATIC. Larger than life, maximalist spectacles. Rhythm Nation, janet., The Velvet Rope, they're outrageously opulent. You can only use the most florid language when describing them.
I downloaded the four relevant bops from Discipline (Feedback, LUV, Rollercoaster, Rock With U), and listening to them back-to-back-to-back-to-back is really slaying me rn. RWU is one of her best songs, ever.
Take away that it's an inferior album for someone of Janet's calibre - 20YO has some great bops. I LOVE the transition from each song in the first half. It's like one big dance routine all the way up until With U slow's it all down.
Rollwitchu is just another missed opportunity in her discography. That song SLAYS and shouldn't have been relegated to bonus track.
