Beyoncé. She can carry a note but what good is a note without emotion, even Britney Jean's "It Should Be Easy" has more emotion than majority of Beyonce's discography.
That list was voted by critics, and artists of the music industry. They clearly know more about vocals than bitter stans.
That list, and I >>>>>>>>>>
Oh glad you agree with critics and artists of the music industry.
Therefore you also agree Beyoncés' discography is like... light-years better than Christinas'
I say Rihanna. People with no knowledge of music and vocals confuse a lot of hand movements and struggle faces as emotion but she's the biggest ice queen.
Beyonce. I get literally nothing from any of her ballads or attempts at being emotional. She's technically a good singer but has zero emotive presence in her voice.
So basically, ATRL doesn't know what an emotion is.
How does any singer, especially ones who sing live, have "zero emotions"? With the lives they have and all of the topics in the world to sing about, how does that work?? I want an explanation.
Honestly with stans it's really just an angle to critique technically sound vocal performances from people they don't care for or justify support of messy or just flat out bad performances from people they like with many because there's no way to argue whether or not someone had an emotional connection to a performance.
With someone like Bey in particular, I think people that are speaking from a legit neutral (non-stan culture related) perspective that hold or have held negative views of Bey's emotive quality probably fall in line with what Dileesa (vocal coach) says here:
And from a perspective of someone that doesn't follow closely, I can absolutely see that -- her early days were super focused on her signature vocal style and Dileesa acknowledges her vocal dexterity and interesting, unique approach to delivery, but dismisses her tone and thought she hid tonal shortcomings behind heavy vibrato. And I disagree with that, but I absolutely understand why she felt that way being someone that wasn't following closely and hearing things like Killing Time or After All is Said and Done or Tell Me that focused less on Bey's stylizations and more on tonal quality -- I do agree that over the years it's gotten more full and rich, but I don't feel like it was non-existent when or just not impressive she was young like some that don't follow her as closely will typically argue. But back in that time, that wasn't the focus -- they weren't trying to angle her vocals as that of a traditional R&B singer with big dramatic vocal displays, but focused more heavily on her signature rap-sing style that kind of created their lane and a niche for them to begin with.
But I digress; just saying that to say this -- people tend to often relate heavily emotional singing to darker, smokier, more gravelly and grittier vocal textures and tones (Mary J., Amy Winehouse etc) and Bey didn't display much of that early on.
As soon as I read the title I knew this was going to be a pety attack on Beyoncé's voice. Of course haters are going to say that she is emotionless and robotic. That's the only thing they can't do to discredit her extraordinary voice. But you know what, everything you can say is going to be subjective and easy to rebound.
The only real answer to the OP's question is Britney. She sounds so robotic that barely resembles a human being. She used to be pretty emotive when she was younger (DLMBTLTK, Everytime). But ever since Blackout, she's merely an instrument in the production of the song. Even her ballads like Out From Under sound lifeless.
These types of discussions are pointless because of soo many varied opinions ..emotions are relative to THE person..You can't exactly tell someone what they connect too..these types of opinions are different for every person.. It's just a distraction from the real problems.. Like why a professional singer cannot stay on key while they sing..
Does ring the alarm have the same emotion as satellites?
Does I miss you sound like upgrade u?
It's pretty easy to break down the emotions found in her songs
The cocky bravado
Upgrade U, diva, run the world
Sexual
Drunk in Love, kitty kat, baby boy
Happy/energetic
Love on top, crazy in love, get me bodied
Soulful
Me myself and I, blue, I miss you
These songs are all distinct from each other not just because of the beat but the way she sings
Its one thing to not care, like "oh partition does nothing for me I guess its not my thing" but to say "she sounds like a robot no emotion" is just ignorant
This post should shut all the haters that said Bey.
Christina. She (and her fans) thinks growling and hollering all over the place with her whoayeahohohyeahoyeahoo ohyeaheahyyyyyyyyyyeahohyeahohhhyeahhhhhaohhh is being 'souful' when really she just comes across as an amateur.
Hive, lets just leave this thread. This one (like the 465216 times where a thread like this one has been opened) aims at downgrading Beyonce because its pretty much the only thing people think they can drag her for (which is obviously stupid cause she can emote pretty well). So lets just give it to the trolls and have them their one peaceful day a month.

I mean... The fact that ATRL considers this a good performance

Well it's obviously way more emotional then robotic Bey. I mean the moment where shes not singing because shes literally crying is just so fake, how could anyone think thats credible. Especially since shes singing perfectly fine afterwards. No, where is the shaky voice? Where are the missed notes? Robotic Bey at her best. Even fans are crying cause its so bad and emotionless.
