You people really don't know what emotion is. Everything I see in here is a sad, dark or depressing song. There's an entire spectrum, yet you all think it's one-sided. Ecstasy, anticipation, longing, delight, and desire are all emotions.
By the way, songs tell stories, and those stories are meant to evoke a certain kind of feeling, whether it's Single Ladies or I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You). Joy is just as much of an emotion as sadness, so I don't understand emphasis on depressing feelings. There are people in this world that Beyonce makes feel joy, triumph, excitement, and pleasure. If you don't feel these things listening to her, ooops oh well. Nothing anyone can do about that. That's why there are different genres and artists. You not liking an artist or getting some significant reaction when listening to them is not the same as them "not being emotive".
And believe it or not, a singer could be completely detached from a song during a performance, and there could be a person watching the performance who would feel something. That's the beauty of emotions. They're all subjective and completely dependent on the individual and his/her taste, personality, and experiences.
The logic that "So-and-so (aka Beyonce) isn't emotional because she can't sing "My Deep, Dark, Depressing Day in Hell" the way Kelly Clarkson, Christina, Britney and Lana did" will never make any sense. Crying, throwing yourself on the floor, pulling out all your hair....they speak to one side of the emotional spectrum, not all of it.
Maybe y'all are just sad.
