Music is a form of art. Art never has to be 'uplifting' or whatever. It tells a story. Lizzy is telling the story of the character "Lana Del Rey" and it has nothing to do with how she feels, although she does use the emotions and feelings she has experienced, to further the character development.

She basically described the Ride video but clearly didn't have the capacity to interpret the video for what it really is. If an artist wants to sing and perform their life story then they have every intention to do so. NO ONE can tell another person that they can't sing about what they are feeling. Lana did not sign up to become a role model. If you want to live the life that she sings about then obviously you dont get Lana for who she really is.

This is a disgusting comment. I highly doubt people relate to depression to seem "intelligent" or "cool", but rather because, you know, they actually can relate to it? It helps people not feel alone in their feelings.

Lana's music was never supposed to be "intellectual" and she's never stated that, so I don't get anyone criticizing her for that. Her music is written to express herself. Just because it isn't intellectual material and doesn't require in-depth analysis doesn't mean it can't be deep on an emotional level. There are deep FEELINGS in it. People need to learn to separate emotional depth from mental depth.

Yes. If it's their truth then why should they not be allowed to write/sing about it? Art often mimics life and life isn't always rainbows and sunshine. Life isn't always PC. If people only wrote about sex and happiness, then at least 90% of the world's history would be completely lost and forgotten by now. We shouldn't expect artists not to address topics simply because they're taboo.

Kim and Courtney simply hate eachother (Kim was a close friend of Kurt back then) and there are some vile passages directed at Courtney in this book.
