I don't think some people understand that IS and Al-Qaeda are not representative of a majority, or even plurality or significant minority, of people who follow Islam.

That's not Charlie's fault. That's the fault of IS and AL-Qaeda for claiming their religion permits these violent acts. The people with the loudest megaphones will be seen as the representatives.

On the one hand, you have people saying that many Muslims/Arabs don't want to assimilate into French society, and on the other hand you have poverty, discrimination, disproportionate unemployment, etc. among those groups that's keeping them from assimilating. So, whose to blame?
Muslims and Arabs are easy targets, especially in France, just like gays are easy targets for Eminem.
I.AX is saying that a lot of you gays are real quick to see how homophobia oppresses you and call out Em because you can see the far reaching implications and consequences of using the F word in his music, but you can't see how Islamaphobia just adds to the noise that's keeping so many Muslims and Arabs from being fully French.

The blatant lies.
French Muslim Students Refused to Honor Moment of Silence for Charlie Hebdo Attack
Quote:
A nationwide minute of silence for the victims of the attack on Charlie Hebdo’s Paris offices was not honored by some Muslim students in French schools, a BBC reporter claimed.
Following last Wednesday’s slaughter of 12 people at the satirical newspaper by Islamic terrorists, President Francois Hollande asked the French people to observe a moment of silence the following day.
But while most of the nation responded with an outpouring of grief and solidarity, one subset of the French nation was less-than-reverential.
“I’m already getting reports from people in France that some schools in those strongly Muslim neighborhoods, the kids didn’t stand for the minute’s silence,” BBC reporter Katty Kay said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Monday. “They see those attackers as heroes. How do we change that? Because that’s where the problem for Europe lies.”
Kay said the Muslim-dominated Parisian suburbs must be “detoxified,” explaining that radicalization is spreading rapidly within the French Muslim community.
Muslims worldwide were incensed by Charlie Hebdo’s publication of cartoons mocking their prophet Mohammed, with many calling for revenge attacks like the one finally carried out last week.

They believe their Prophet is ABOVE any value of our constitution.
That's THE REAL PROBLEM.

where do i suggest being ok with stereotyping
I said that the stereotypes come from people being exposed to crazy **** like this. Just like George Bush made the rest of the World hate the U.S. when he was president.
People are too busy with their own things to bother going into the nitty gritty. Of course they will feel certain ways when stuff like this occurs, and it occurs WAY too much to ignore or call a one off. Between 9/11, ISIS, AL Qaeda, etc, it's hard to just blame satirists for the bad reputation Islam has

A) I did not SAY it was the magazine's fault, I was referring solely to people in this thread.
B) That is still NOT okay, and people should have the common sense to realize that speaking over everyone else is not speaking for everyone else.

I still find it funny how no one gives a **** about all the muslim victims christians killed over the last few years, but a few extremists kill a few white people and it's the end of the world.

Ignorance is a natural state You could be the smartest man in the World and still be ignorant about ONE topic at the very least.
People aren't obligated to learn about Islam. They have their own lives to worry about. If these terrorists would stop doing violent things on behalf of "Allah," people would stop affiliating Allah with terrorism.
You honestly expect Grandma or Soccer mom to peruse wikipedia for three hours to learn about the truth? You can't even get people to learn the metric system in the U.S.

A) That was the past
B) Muslims killed thousands upon thousands of others too
C) No one TODAY is killing Muslims on "behalf of God" but plenty of Muslims are killing "infidels" for being against "Allah" / "Allahu Akbar"
AT WORST, Christians today are like the Westboro Baptist Church, who have been essentially dismantled and shamed into nonexistence.
---
Anyways, this whole experience is a HUGE slap in the face to those now-dead terrorists and all other radical Muslims. A formerly decaying magazine is printing 3 MILLION copies this week on an issue that use to at most have 200,000 subscribers. Charlie Hebdo has essentially been reborn and cemented into history. Something the wannabe martyrs were fighting so hard to kill
Best of all, Muhammad's head is shaped like a dick on all 3 million issues

The point is
That ignorant people
Are making innocent people's lives hell when those innocent people cant do a damn thing about it and the extremists clearly aren't stopping to consider others' quality of life
You can say, "oh, well if extremists stopped, people wouldn't think all Muslims are terrorist," but how the hell does that fix anything? Why would the terrorists have any incentive to stop because of people they already disagree with? How are the normal people who follow Islam supposed to magically snap their fingers and get the terrorists, who are not following the exact same beliefs, to stop being terrorists? You're trivializing the issue by giving ignorant people an excuse to be ignorant. If people took three seconds to stop and use the brainpower that we have and think somewhat above the level of a dead bird, then we could get past the generalizations and focus on vilifying only those who murder, bomb, or harm and not people who haven't actually been associated with that once in their entire lives.
It doesn't take hours. It doesn't even take sixty seconds. Plenty of publications, sites, directories, and people can tell you that extremists aren't representative of Islam, and plenty have done just that - people are simply too ignorant to listen, even when the information is delivered directly to them.

I find it hilarious that people are failing to see the point that we SHOULD NOT give in to terrorists, we must compromise our human rights because of terrorist threats. Free speech is incredibly important and being killed for utilizing that right is wrong.

"That was the past" okay let's just forget everything, just like slavery and other minority oppression.
Muslims are still getting killed, it doesn't matter if it's behalf of god, they're still getting killed because they're muslims.

The fact that they are still getting killed to me is irrelevant.

I actually quite love the cover, and I think it sends a pretty strong message that needs to be sent in the wake of this situation. Those men do not represent the muslim community and the muslim community is side by side with the rest of the world against terror.
