55. Danielle Bradbery - I Will Never Forget You "Sooner or later they say / That it all gets easier / Take it one tear at a time... / No matter how much time may pass between us / You’ll never be more than a memory away / 'Cause I’ll never forget you / No, I’ll never forget you... / No matter how much pain I have to go through / It’s better than feeling nothing for you at all"
GIF expressing my anger/outrage over this not being a single.
Why on earth was this song not released as a single? I don’t even stan for Danielle Bradbery (I cannot in good conscious do so as a Cassadee Pope stan), but even I realize that this song had an abundant amount of potential to slay the country charts and potentially even cross over. What was her label thinking??? This song is amazing, lyrically, vocally, and production-wise. It’s all about loving someone, holding them close, and never being able to forget them. This was a SMASH waiting to happen, and I am furious it was not released as a single.
54. Kacey Musgraves -The Trailer Song
"You say that you’re watching the birds out the window / Well I’ve got a bird you can watch... / What’s it to you if it’s Wednesday at noon / And I’ve traded my iced tea for scotch... / So keep your two cents on your side of the fence / Girl we ain’t friends we’re just neighbors / There ain’t nothing to see here / Go back to your trailer"
After slaying me in 2013, Kacey Musgraves’ only entry on my Top 100 of 2014 is at #54 with The Trailer Song. This song perfectly demonstrates Kacey’s unique writing style, which I already love, and a slight country-acoustic twang which I love as well. Kacey is an amazing songwriter, but is not as appreciated (yet) by country music and the mainstream as I feel she should be. Hopefully Kacey’s good friend Katy Perry can help her slay careers in 2015.
53. Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass "Yeah, it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two / But I can shake it, shake it / Like I'm supposed to do... / I'm here to tell ya / Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top"
Another Billboard Hot 100 #1 falls flat as Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass lands at #53. Meghan is another artist who is a great writer with a great personality, and I’m hoping she continues to break out in 2015. With songs under her belt like Lips Are Movin and Dear Future Husband, she’ll be relevant for a while, and rightfully so. She’s too good to not be a future queen of pop music.
52. Shakira feat. Rihanna - Can`t Remember to Forget You "I left a note on my bedpost / Said not to repeat yesterday's mistakes / What I tend to do when it comes to you / I see only the good, selective memory... / But when you look at me, the only memory / Is us kissing in the moonlight"
After Danielle Bradbery has sung about never forgetting someone, Shakira and Rihanna team up to sing about being unable to forget someone. Sensing a theme? Can’t Remember to Forget You hyped me for Shakira’s new self-titled album, which I honestly was not expecting to like as much as I did. Something about the production throughout the entire album is the exact sound that I love listening to. Though I wish the era had slayed harder, this song was amazing at the beginning of 2015.
51. Beyoncé feat. Nicki Minaj - ***Flawless (Remix) "Of course sometimes **** go down / When it's a billion dollars on an elevator... / Looking Trinidadian, Japanese and Indian / Got Malaysian, got that yaki, that wavy Brazilian / Them bitches thirsty, I'm Hungarian / Nicki, Bey, be eatin' diamond fangs, barbarian"
Another ***flawless collaboration follows Shakira and Rihanna. After releasing ***Flawless on her own self-titled album in 2013, Beyoncé released this incredible remix featuring Nicki Minaj. I know Kim Kardashian wanted to break the internet, but didn’t Beyoncé and Nicki do that with this single? I wasn’t convinced this would live up to the hype at first, but it’s amazing. Flawless queens
Style, Latch & Break The Rules are all so amazing!

53. Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass
52. Shakira feat. Rihanna – Can’t Remember to Forget You
51. Beyoncé feat. Nicki Minaj - ***Flawless (Remix)
50. Vance Joy - Riptide "I was scared of dentists and the dark... / Lady, running down to the riptide / Taken away to the dark side / I wanna be your left hand man / I love you when you're singing that song / And I got a lump in my throat / 'Cause you're gonna sing the words wrong"
The top half of my countdown begins with a relatively new song just beginning to break into the mainstream. Vance Joy’s writing on this track is incredible and unique, and the entire song just has a feel-good vibe to it, despite the slightly haunting music video. I haven’t had a chance to check out Vance Joy’s album yet, but I hope it’s just as good as this single.
49. Hilary Duff - All About You "You could be my dirty secret / I could be yours / We could only be a rumor / Never be sure... / Think you're all about me but I'm all about you / Turn the lights down let me show you it's true / Get a little taste of what I'm into / Think you're all about me but I'm all about you"
How this astounding piece of pop perfection flopped is beyond me. Part of the problem is the lack of meaningful promotion and Hilary trying to juggle too many projects at one time, but I also sense that it may have been assumed this track was strong enough that radio would just jump on it. That is not going to happen when an artist has been away from the music scene for as long as Hilary has. Hopefully 2015 is a much better year for Hilary’s music career.
48. NONONO - Pumpin Blood "This is your heart, it's alive / It's pumping blood / It's your heart, it's alive / It's pumping blood / And the whole wide world is whistling"
I can’t find any gifs for this song/music video, so enjoy these two great gifs. Along with Style by Taylor Swift, Pumpin Blood by NONONO was one of the other earworms that slayed me for quite a while in 2014. The instrumental alone is equally as good as the vocals, and I can’t believe this didn’t smash either. Looking back, I didn’t realize there were this many songs that failed to crack the mainstream in 2014. I believe this song is being used in a shampoo commercial now.
47. Cole Swindell - Hope You Get Lonely Tonight "If you're feelin' what I'm feelin' let's mix it up / You got my number baby hit me up / If you need a little late night pick me up / I, hope you get lonely tonight / We ain't gotta make up just kiss me / We could straight up blame it on the whiskey / You ain't gotta wake up and miss me, no / I hope you get lonely tonight"
This song bothered me for a little while because of its lyrics, saying you hope someone gets lonely tonight. Not only is that a terrible thing to say or wish upon someone, it’s an odd brick to build a song upon. Nonetheless, this song eventually won me over and it became one of my favorite country songs of 2014.
46. 5 Seconds of Summer - She Looks So Perfect "You look so perfect standing there / In my American Apparel underwear / And I know now, that I'm so down / I made a mixtape straight out of '94 / I've got your ripped skinny jeans lying on the floor / And I know now, that I'm so down"
She Looks So Perfect is perfectly catchy. This is a solid effort as the band’s debut single, which led me to start checking for 5 Seconds of Summer. The lyrics are simultaneously pop candy and unexpected- I love the lyrics about mixtapes and skinny jeans, but the lyrics about ‘American Apparel underwear’ are still a bit weird to hear. Nonetheless, this was a great debut by 5 Seconds of Summer.
