Oh god I wish there was a way to please all of the judges. Sometimes I feel like ripping my hair out!!
Fefe, can I ask...What is an example of a hate song that feels genuine? I'm not asking sarcastically, but I just wanna learn ahah!
And Huga, the words in the brackets are meant to represent an echo kind of thing, a lot of songs have belts over the regular vocal track in the final chorus, I put them in to kind of bring a peak to the song. Is this a pet peeve or do you simply think it's just not a good technique to use?

I was just looking at my songs from the first three rounds, and I am amazed by how wordy they were compared to what I have done recently.

The absolute PANNING from Huga tho.

Yeah, that's what I meant by ad libs, and honestly...none of the other judges commented on it, so maybe it's a personal peeve of mine.

So I just re-read all of my critiques and I can honestly say that I agree with all of them, sans one of Huga's. I fail to see how my radio friendly style wasn't suited to the challenge and detracted from it. The challenge was to simply write a song from an obscure, Lana Del Rey-style title, not to write an obscure Lana Del Rey-style song. If anything I'd think that being able to turn an obscure title into a radio friendly song would be something to be commended. Just how I'd view it. But considering the songs that received the most praise (from Huga) were the ones that sounded like Lana songs, perhaps I should have re-listened to Born To Die before starting my song.

Do your pet peeves influence your marking?

Well no it wasn't part of the challenge to write a Lana song and I get that. I just didn't feel like the radio-friendliness did this particular song justice, although that very aspect about you is something I really appreciate.

Sometimes. But I legit thought the ad libs thing would be something all the judges agree on.
The good news for you is that me being harsh is like Fefe being generous, so I don't think I'd be the one bringing your average down.

Apparently you did listen to BTD if the judges clocked your use of cliches.

I like these types of songs because I grew up in a very religious environment and I kinda love songs that use sacrilegious metaphors like you did. Even so, I wasn’t completely in love with this and a lot of lines felt forced. You really stepped up your game the past few weeks but this pales in comparison.
|
Woahh a verse with 7 lines is considered "weird"?? Omg I had no clue sisssss, my biggest risk yet Thank you. That was my favourite line too. I also grew up in that kinda environment which is why I decided to write a song about believing in something that you don't actually believe in cause girl. Oh and sorry, but I don't really know which lines are forced and which aren't. I guess I'm being eliminated this week if this pales in comparison since last week I was in the bottom 2.

Once again, I feel like you had great language here and I liked the premise, but the rhythm feels messy. I hate to make songwriting sound so structured, but maybe next week actually count syllables to see how your lines measure up, because a long stray line throws off the rhythm for the reader and makes it feel clunky. Good work on the words though.
|
Ngl I'm actually hella pissed because I don't have rhythm!!!! I hate writing songs in such a constrained way because that's not what I do. I'm a free spirit!!! Thanks anyways Structure is NOT my forte and I might sound stubborn here but I'm not sure if I can change that like how I've adapted the way I write.

I don't know how much you are to blame as compared to the title, but like, it's honestly so frustrating to see you have these strokes of brilliance overshadowed all the time.

Right?? Totally agree with this critique right here.
