Being the fifth-best selling female artist of all-time may not be as important as ruling Billboard's irrelevant female of the year chart twice, but I think it's fair to say it meant something.

the impact was real.
a persons iconic status is determined by all of the memorable moments that they have had in their career. moments that people talked about, whether its photos, performances, interviews, music, controversy. Britney has all of those, Taylor is just boring and bland and has no memorable moments in pop history other than Kanye snatching her statue at the VMAs
