Gaga can pull a look only she can do, she's also a force in the industry because whenever she wears a young designer's collection it'll give that designer a boost of promo towards his/her brand. Making her a hybrid of Daphne Guinness and Issy Blow. Gaga also has access to runway archives of well-known fashion houses.

They are both fashion icons, but both very different with their own appeal.

That quote from Tom Ford isn't necessarily a positive one. He basically said that people don't actually care about fashion they just care about what their popstars are wearing / no thoughts of their own.

But ya Rihanna is a fashion inspiration to many.
Gaga isn't for the common person but she is still a fashion icon because she has many iconic fashion moments and is probably the popstar most linked to fashion as far as their brand goes.

As much as I dislike that this is a fact, Kim really is a fashion icon to many. There are so many girls who copy their looks from what she does from her hair/beauty.

Beyoncé, ever since she's been tumbling more has been recognized for her clothing choices as well.

That purple thing she wore to collect her fashion icon award. Her grammy dresses are usually amazing. Her outfit the night of the elevator incident and that's just off the top of my head.

Fashion Icon does not equal to people dressing like you. And if that's the case, Gaga has plenty because all her contemporaries were following her footsteps at one point, even Rihanna in her Rated R era, specifically the Hard vid.

Fashion Icon is someone's who's fashion has had impact. And as far as I know Gaga's fashion has been talked about, made controversy and been a huge part of what got her famous. Stop trying to descredit her because your classmates aren't dressing with avant garde pieces made by mcqueen, gareth pugh, philip tracy, mugler and countless others.
