I wouldn't either, but she won the award for LAST GENERATION. Her actual voice is still great, she just hasn't showcased it nearly as much. Adele tries to showcase her a lot, but her limited range impedes this
Ariana Grande. Four octaves. If Adele's voice makes her the voice of a generation, so does Taylor's
Are you saying only octaves make a great/good singer? This illusion that the Whitney/Celine/Mariah era (all who are REAL powerhouse singers and way better than Christina) started is ridiculous and one-sided.
Ariana Grande can have four octaves, but I can count good performances by her on one hand. She is not a great singer.

A ''voice of a generation'' goes beyond having only a ''good voice''. Adele represent a generation, our generation.

Christina Aguilera has four Octaves and FAR more power than Adele. And she has countless good performances to back it up. Mariah is another great vocalist, clocking in at five Octaves but with less power
Ari can't enunciate, but her actual voice always sounds good. Her vocal flaws can be fixed, Adele's cannot. You cannot magically expand the number of Octaves you have.
How can JoJo be the 'voice of a generation' or 'decade' if no one knows her from this generation or this decade?
The "voice of the decade" is taken too literally. It doesn't mean that you are the best vocalist of this generation. It's that your voice stands out and represents the time period of this era. Of this generation, I can't think of anyone who has done it, but regardless of Adele's limitations, she's what people of this decade look to as a "great vocalist." If it was only about ability, Christina would not have that title, which was given to her by another overrated vocalist, Celine Dion.

I would say Adele or before her Amy is defining the British vocal style that conquers the world for this decade.
The American producers, suits are looking too much for an image especially for these Disney, Nikolodeon girls.
The Brits are just obsessed with new voices like Sam Smith, Jess Glynne, Ella Eyre or now Ella Hendersom as long as these voices are pretty much pure, strong and honest.
So, I think the Brits will dominate this decade and Adele is their frontrunner.

I'm still waiting on Ari to "fix" her vocal flaws. Until then, she ain't ****.

A Voice of a Generation is both meant to have a great voice AND meant to capture and inspire the ideals of a generation. Xtina has both, that's why she got it.
And Adele stans should not be calling Xtina or Celine (who I don't even like), who have Adele beat in EVERY way aspect of singing (Power, range, etc.) "overrated vocally"

And my point is, that even the most overrated vocalists are given the title, hence why it's not to be taken literally.
Range is not the be-all and end-all, but Adele's range is incredibly limited and makes her very limited as a vocalist. She even struggles terribly to hit the Eb5s on Someone Like You for a millisecond in the studio, which even most full contraltos can do with little problem. And despite having a quite low voice, her lower register isn't incredible. It's mid-register and nothing else.
SLY on the album is the demo version (that's why it's so different from her live performances) and she admitted that she was crying while recording it.
Adele knows she's not Whitney Houston but there's emotion, power, and honesty and her voice and that's what makes it incredible. It's not about hitting whistle notes.
Mariah Carey really did ruin what it means to be a vocalist. Most of the best voices of all time were limited in range, etc but knew how to move an audience with their voice. THAT's what it means to "a voice". Most people don't care how many notes you can hit. It's about more than that.
