Not ATRL (a board filled with guys who lust over teenage underaged boys and idolize limited female pop singers) being a representation of 'good life choices.'
How can JoJo be the 'voice of a generation' or 'decade' if no one knows her from this generation or this decade?
The "voice of the decade" is taken too literally. It doesn't mean that you are the best vocalist of this generation. It's that your voice stands out and represents the time period of this era. Of this generation, I can't think of anyone who has done it, but regardless of Adele's limitations, she's what people of this decade look to as a "great vocalist." If it was only about ability, Christina would not have that title, which was given to her by another overrated vocalist, Celine Dion.
I said from 2015 onwards, when she finally returns with her worldwide #1 smash.
Seriously though, it's far too early to call anyway. Adele herself is still only 25 and has still only released two albums. You could say that she is currently the voice of the generation, but that says little about her. It's mostly because of the complete lack of talent on show and the fact that there aren't even many prominent 90s-born (or just outside of the 90s) singers.

And just because an artist doesn't oversing doesn't mean they don't have an incredible voice. Most people prefer Adele's style of singing over unnecessary vocal runs and high notes. Learn something about actual singing if you're going to make such a ridiculous claim.
The answer is yes. What other artist can stand in a black, plain dress with nothing but piano and send a song straight to number 1? Who else has gotten all of their attention (on the level Adele has gotten) in recent years for just their voice and their music and nothing else?
This is the wrong forum to ask though. People are still upset that she took the spot they wanted their favs to have.
edit: Let me sum it up. There is no other artist right now, besides Sam Smith, whose voice is their main selling point.
She may not do a lot of runs but she does vocal gymnastics just like any other r&b vocalist out there.
1. She has the same number of Octaves as Taylor Swift
2. That number is 2, which is pretty much the minimum amount for a human beiing
3. The Voice of a Generation is meant to represent a healthy, mature lifestyle. While I see no problem with the way Adele lives her life, many have criticized hers
SLY on the album is the demo version (that's why it's so different from her live performances) and she admitted that she was crying while recording it.
Adele knows she's not Whitney Houston but there's emotion, power, and honesty and her voice and that's what makes it incredible. It's not about hitting whistle notes.
Mariah Carey really did ruin what it means to be a vocalist. Most of the best voices of all time were limited in range, etc but knew how to move an audience with their voice. THAT's what it means to "a voice". Most people don't care how many notes you can hit. It's about more than that.
Well, she has never hit that note on SLY or any other song live. And she isn't comfortable above C#5, which is easy for even most contraltos.
Most great vocalists don't have Mariah's range, no, but there is no great voice remotely close to as limited as Adele's is. I like her voice and don't deny that she emotes well, nor do I think range is particularly important. But when it restricts so much that you're basically a one-trick pony, that's an issue.
She couldn't even sing this, and her voice is supposed to be low:

Girl, what?

She doesn't perform Someone Like You like that because she hates the album version (as do most of her fans who wanted the live version on the album). She only put it on there because wanted the demos for the album (and because the final version wasn't just her voice and piano - it had strings and backing vocals). All of the songs on 21 were reproduced by Rick Rubin so it would sound more consistent but she felt the demos were better representations of how she felt when she recorded the songs, hence why it made the album over the final version.
Again, Adele's voice makes people feel something. It emotes the way it's meant to emote and people respond to it. THAT's why she's the voice of this decade. It has nothing to do with range, etc. NOTHING. Bob Dylan is considered a voice of his generation, not because he was an incredible vocalist, but because he spoke to people.
It's not really about the vocal range. Her deep husky voice is superbly pleasant to my ears at least. It's the tone of voice and vibrato control that matter. According to Ryan Tedder, her voice has improved during her hiatus.
Not at all, and if you're gonna say Ariana, she isn't much more, while Adele's belting ends at C#5, Ariana voice doesn't start until C4 and her "whistles" which are only falsetto comes and goes, she barely uses it nowdays.
To be a good vocalist, you don't need a very big range, but it still needs to be balanced and you should know your limits and use what you have in the best posible way.
