What have jeans and hamburgers got to do with cultural appropriation? Come on. At least sound like you know what you are talking about.
America is a huge melting pot of cultures. According to what you're saying because I'm a white American I should only participate in white American culture. Read between the lines once or twice and try to understand a bit before you reply. As I've shown I'd love to discuss but all you're doing is bashing me so come back when you're ready or I'm done with you
that specific comment was directed to those saying blacks can't succeed and that white privilege means whites will always be more successful than black. There's no way I can target all arguments in one comment but please feel free to browse my earlier comments for my opinion on the issue you're discussing
But white people will always be more collectively successful than blacks, because they will always have more opportunities to given to them. That is true.
And I think it is more than painfully obvious that black people can succeed but how does that mean Iggy did not exploit black culture in order to succeed in a genre rooted in black culture?

No, you can 'participate' in other cultures if you wish, as long as you are not exploiting it for your own benefit or gain, which is what Iggy has done. And that's the appropriation. To add fuel to the fire, she has made blatantly racist comments on the internet. Why would one not think at this point she is not being exploitative?

hip hop/rap isn't only limited to black culture tho. if thats the case then only white people should do country music, Hispanic should only do Salsa music, etc...

I 100% agree with the first part of that comment. Still it doesn't mean any black person can't be successful or that it's incredibly difficult in comparison to a white person (although I admit it is a little more difficult).
And I'm still looking for receipts of Iggy being disrespectful to black culture. If you have any I might agree with that statement.

I didn't say it was. Did you even read my comment?

Just stop sis, you'll never get to an agreement with anyone in here. I have not seen anyone in REAL life that has had a problem with Iggy besides the usual oh she's white but nothing besides that. No allegations of exploiting black culture blah blah blah. And the BET awards proved it, all them jamming and bopping to Fancy. Is just certain people who dislike Iggy for more reasons than her race and her "fake accent".

She went out of her way to mock other races and make stereotypical racist jokes. For what good reason (like there would ever be one)? None. Why do you mock a race only to go on to adopt it's culture for your own benefit and popularity? That's incredibly contradictory to me. And that's where questioning her overall authenticity comes in. And it's not just black people, but other races and even homosexuals.

OH NO she told a racist joke? STONE HA
like really who hasn't in their lifetime
i don't see the problem with any of them. (yes even the gay one) the mexican body one is rude but not really racist

They always pull up those tweets, yet they cheer up for Chris Brown, JB, A Banks and even Rih doing stuff similar to this. I'm telling you sis the problem with these gerls is not exactly race or fake accents they just dislike IGGY. I don't applaud ha for saying any of those hell, she said something about mexicans, she was so wrong for that but as I said everyone's faves have said **** that could be offensive but it only matters, is offensive and is always brought up because is Iggy.
Idk. I personally don't see the accent or what she does offensive. She isn't blatantly appropriating like Miley. Iggy deserves her success right now, and I don't think she got it because she was white, she got it because she made a catchy rap song with a cute chorus.
and this negative stereotype you are referring to would be......?
I don't even want to describe it because describing the stereotype I have in my mind could be reported for being offensive. The rules on this site are so sensitive that recognising a stereotype could be perceived as stereotyping myself. A lot of black rappers are bad examples for their communities. Some aren't, some rap about overcoming adversity and the struggles of their race. But others just rap about drugs and money. She's not impersonating the voices of all black people. Black people have completely different accents all across America. The reason it's exploitative is because she's impersonating the voices of black people who live in hoods and ghettos, who you see in WorldStarHipHop fights.
Have you ever seen the film 'Crash'? It's a beautiful movie that examines modern-day racism. If you haven't, you should watch it. There's a seen where Ludacris' character (who's a bit of a gangster) gets into the car of Terrence Howard (who's a successful black TV producer) and with tears in his eyes, Terrence Howard looks at Ludacris (who's holding a gun on him) and calmly says "get out. You embarrass me. You embarrass yourself."
Terrence Howard's character works as producer/director on a black sitcom. There's one scene where he yells "cut! That was great guys!" and afterwards, a white executive producer comes up to him and says "hey there was one line where she said 'do you know what I mean?' can you reshoot that again and get her to say 'you know what I'm sayin?" and he's like "no, it was good, that was a great take" and his boss is like "No. Shoot it again." Throughout other parts of the film, he's constantly harassed by police because he's black. You get to see how much racism affects someone who's trying to overcome the stereotypes and generalisations put on his race. And then Ludacris' character comes into the storyline and perpetuates that negative stereotype he's trying to overcome.
My point is, Iggy Azalea is appropriating people like Ludacris' character, which is offensive to people like Terrence Howard's character.

Not everyone does actually. I have never. Why do you generalise?
Why would you make a fun of a race who your entire musical identity is derived from? Do you not consider that exploitative? So she can make fun behind closed doors but 'rap' like them?

Why would Iggy choose to exploit black culture if she knew that black people would never take her seriously? She didn't exploit black culture in order to become successful. If she was just doing it for success, she would have been trying to sing pop songs instead of rap. "Black culture" is her culture, that's what she's assimilated to because of her upbringing and life.
