I find it interesting you chose Adele. I think you'll have to write outside your comfort zone. Her lyrics are indeed somewhat poetic at times, but they're also very straightforward most of the time and discuss very concrete feelings. You never have to question what she's talking about.
(The exception being SFTTR, but even she has said that it doesn't make any sense
