Agree about Rainbow but if anything that is when she started acting really insecure to me. Both her persona (crying about being mixed race came off very fake that era) and insecurities about her live vocals.
I much prefer artists put their insecurities into their lyrics (eg Butterfly era and even Adele, T-Swift examples) rather than doing some fake crying during a tv interview.
that UK interview comes to mind (the one where she sang Against All Odds and TGIFY).
