Brooklyn Nights is actually really weird when you think about it. It's VERY clearly about Luc, it's about her life in New York before fame, it's about life in a free, somewhat grieving but forward-looking sort of way. That's not something we've seen on ARTPOP really. Everything on ARTPOP but Gypsy has a very refined purpose or intention behind it - BN is just a song. It's different from her recent things. She has a good point in her speech though.

Her job isn't really to be a plastic doll who churns out commercially perfect stuff, really, and yes I realize that's an exaggeration - contractually she's just obligated to make money and beyond that she can do what she wants. Everyone wants something out of her. Even I want something out of her (give me Out of Control or give me death tbh). But she doesn't really have to do any of that.
