Yes, currently, R&B as a whole is trash... maybe even the worst it's ever been.

Well, it's not currently the best, but R&B is actually not that bad, right now, either.

"Is she a fad?", "Is she ruining said genre?", "Is she a one-hit wonder?" as if you hate when they get sudden acclaim and public love.
How do you suddenly have a problem with something that has been happening for years? It doesn't make much sense at all, and it makes your point - more often than not - seem pretty moot. Is this about the state of R&B, or the fact that you hate to see Pharrell succeeding or getting unexpected love from the public? I think it's the latter because "Happy" isn't really all that "R&B".

Cap10, you're thinking way too much, man. If my threads displeasure you so, do no enter them. For some odd reason or another, you always, always, feel the need to steer the conversation back to me, personally, instead of focusing on the topic at hand -- there's so many "you's" in your paragraph. The thread isn't about me or Ke$ha. It's a valid, current, R&B discussion thread on a music forum that's purposefully provocative to stimulate conversation. Pharrell is current, so I used him as a current example. There's no ulterior motive other than to get a conversation going. You're thinking too much, aye. You're trying so hard to to "clock" me when there's nothing to "clock," kid. It just looks embarrassing on your part, son. And we'd like to think you're better than that, no? I enjoyed reading everyone's opinions on this subject. It was very interesting. Thank you.

It didn't displeasure me until you named "Happy" as the #1 example to your point (and said that Drake's tired ass lullabies are "forward-thinking"). There is an ulterior motive to this topic, as is with all of your topics.
And no, I just see right through you.

A bit ironic considering K$'s track record.
And don't deflect saying "take it to the ke$ha thread."
Don't the Animals stan for her unreleased catalog more than her actual material?
Must I even iron out the Ke$ha-Bonnie-Britney debacle?
Why would one imply R&B is in such a 'tragic' state when the same thing is happening in pop?
Even one of Kesha's songs, Run Devil Run, was sent to a K-pop girl group, yet the demo remains a fan favorite.
R&B isn't at a place any different than pop.
Generic R&B songs are getting eaten up? Wow, shocker.
Timber and Die Young topped the pop charts at one point in time-- does this mean pop is in a tragic state?
I GUESS.
Learn to dig deeper rather than to just scratch the surface.
There is more to R&B than Sevyn/Jhene Aiko/Trey Songz, just like there is more to pop than whatever you stan for.

With any genre of music there are artists making lots of music that can be considered trash. R&B is no different.

If you think any genre is currently boring or bad, you aren't looking hard enough. I don't care what genre is being discussed, that is a fact.

Mainstream wise it is very bland, I do enjoy Miguel and Adrian Marcel though. I mostly stick with the R&B artists of the '90s. Toni and Babyface new album is flawless.

The random conspiracy theories with no basis. Like, why are you so obsessed with me?

Yes, music, in general, is in a tragic state. Yaddah yaddah. -insert pretentiousness here- Et cetera. I wanted to skip that conversation and zero in on R&B. Because one of the recurring arguments in this thread is: "Well, there's variety in R&B, just like there's variety in any genre." But that's the thing... there IS no variety in R&B, right now, and that's why it's trash, right now. There WAS variety in R&B in the 90's and early 2000's, and that's why it was so successful. That variety is gone today. There is MORE variety in pop music than there is variety in R&B music today, and that's why pop music is more successful today. A few more members also compared the topic to the "Rock is Dead" conversation. That's inaccurate, because Rock IS actually dead. R&B isn't dead, R&B is limping... badly, with a pack of wolves ready and waiting to devour its carcass. You have to tune into a specific radio station, if you want to listen to ROCK music. You can still hear R&B music on mainstream radio stations. ROCK can't be saved -- it's never coming back. R&B CAN be saved, there's still a modicum of life left.

"Happy" is not an R&B song. So you can't use it as an example to compare/generalise the rest of R&B.

I prefer Sevyn over Jhene. At least Sevyn can sing more than one note.
It Won't Stop and Shattered were two of the best R&B songs of last year imo

It's about the genre as a whole tho
The idea that you have to go looking hard for good music from a specific genre implies that the genre as a whole is full of lousy music

Precisely. I shouldn't have to go on a scavenger hunt just to find some decent R&B.
