Mary J Blige, Tyrese, 112, Blackstreet, Mario, Joe, Mya, Pink [in her R&B days], Brian McKnight, Ashanti, Tamia, Jaheim, D' Angelo, Lil'Mo, Destinys Child, etc.
There were so many at the time. Although the genre was more Hip-Hop influenced in the 00s, we still had Soulful girls like Floetry, Erykah, India, Alicia, Lauryn still doing their thing.
I think the peak was 2004 imho. I mean what was the last real #1 R&B record on the Hot 100, was it "Let Me Love You" by Mario in 04'? Serious question. I'm honestly thinking back lol.
Thereafter, it felt like the genre died radio/commercially wise, and people jumped on the South/Crunk records by Ciara, Petey Pablo, Lil Jon, etc.
