Agreed! There's a lot of good, interesting stuff to listen to. It's about to make a massive comeback on the charts and in popular consciousness, but the foundation started a couple years ago. I think the wide appeal of Bey's album and the steady rollout of her singles, all heavily influenced by the progressive/alt R&B stylings of people like Frank Ocean and Solange, will turn the tide in R&B's favor. EDM is pretty dead, there is a vacuum in popular music. But whether it's popular or not, there is a lot of good R&B to listen to now.

Modern R&B is shifting and changing, just like every other music genre out there.

I just don't like the genre, it's all so samey and boring. This is a forum so I'm allowed to say I don't like it in a thread asking for people's opinions on it. No need to make a big deal out of it really

R&B's golden age was the 90s. So many classics. Such a thriving genre commercially and critically from all angles (neo-soul, adult contemporary slow jams, alternative R&B, hip hop/R&B). Like Rock music, I'm so tired of people asking "Is R&B dead?", "Can it be saved?" like wtf genre's don't die, they just go out of trend in the top40 in phases. It seems like R&B is slowly making it's presence more known in the top40 than in recent years.

R&B has always been one of my favorite genres and it's many styles are always producing something solid. Most people who are fans and study it know this. It seems like some of you guys just wait around for top40 radio to deliver **** to you or to tell you something is "popping" like get outta here. And don't get me started on certain mentioned acts being called R&B/Soul when they are not.
