Madonna, Michael, Mariah, Celine and Beyonce are the only legends.

"Respect" is not all that makes a legend.

Well, as predicted, this thread's name should be: Is Britney Spears a Legend? I am just going to say that if Britney Spears is not a legend, then no one that became famous during her time is.
Britney is the popstar protype, I mean, that's gotta mean something. Only because some of you think she is not as great as she used to be, that won't take any credit of everything she has done before. Only because her last album didn't do so well in the charts, that doesn't mean a thing. I think everyone considers Cher a legend or even Madonna and their commercial success is nowhere near what it was back then.
Britney Spears is obviously a legend, did you actually read the definiton of it? But I expected people to start the Britney vs. Beyoncé thing.

If it's because of the vocal composition that Beyoncé wrote, then how come Alejandro Fernandez doesn't have credits? They both came in with the same lyric sheets, as seen in "The Making of...Amor Gitano," so why wouldn't he get credits, too?

Oh! And going with my other faves: Shakira is obviously a legend; Mariah as well. As for Jennifer Love Hewitt sadly not even an icon

Not now. For now, Christina, Britney Spears, and Beyonce are considered icons. I don't think Britney and Christina will be considered legends in the long run but I may be wrong.
I am wondering what P!NK will be considered in the long run. She is doing extremely well with career longevity.
|
That's right. longevity during their peaks and impact are most important in determining a legend
Beyonce will be a legend. Christina's peak didn't last long enough to be considered a legend.
Britney is a question mark but I lean toward no, she is not a legend.
P!nk is doing legendary things quietly.
But as I stated, Mariah is the youngest legend.

Because maybe he didn't come up with any of the melodic ideas....?

We heard the same excuse after "Irreplaceable." All of the recording process was filmed, so why not just show the film that proves she wrote it?
Feel free to take this to my wall, though, so we don't go any further off-topic. I don't even believe that Beyoncé isn't/won't be a legend, I just don't understand the delusion that Beyoncé would be a legend before Britney Spears.

Because, believe it or not, people don't sit around thinking like stans. "Hmmm....they might not believe Beyonce was involved in creating some of the melodic concepts for the song, so let's remember to show her doing it so that we can appease their minds"

The only reason she's overlooked its because she doesn't use controversy to sell.

This. The one and only, Legendary Shakira! Her name alone is legendary and her hips are iconic
BTW, I can't believe some of you list xtina as legend just because she had a unique voice. Shakira has a voice like no other as well, no1curr.
And some try to deny Britney 's impact? Please stop embarrassing yourselves.
Global accomplishments is what makes you a legend.

Personally, I think Gaga is a legend. She has achieved so much. But in okay with her at just icon status right now.

Britney and Madonna are the only legends out of the pop girls releasing music these days.
I would say Gaga, Rihanna and Katy are on the road to being icons, perhaps. Beyonce might be considered an icon if she keeps up the way she's going at the minute for some more years as well

People don't know what a legend or icon is and use it way to loosly. What makes a legend is their influence and contributions to music among other factors not sales. As far as an icon that's a whole nother thing I don't care to get into explaining
EDIT: This thread is a mess gotta go and educate sadly
