Has your fave created an artists career, and helped them achieve a multi-platinum global hit on their debut single? Mine has. Obv a legendary move.

I think Beyonce is the only one of her generation to be a legend. Similar to other legends like Diana Ross, Cher, and Tina Turner, the reason Beyonce is a legend at such a young age comes from the fact that she's managed to have two successful music careers, each giving her iconic moments and a large variety of ways to showcase her talents and become known for the music she creates. To have one chapter of your career close and a whole new solo one open and become massive is legend-worthy. That, plus her notoriety for her stage prowess and her musical and vocal abilities makes her a legend.
It's possible to rope in Britney to the legend table but she is more of an icon than a legend (she is not generally a person who is famous for her extraordinary characteristics or talent). I don't think it's shade to be an icon at all (I mean anyone who is pressed that their fave is just an icon is asking for too much) because icons aren't necessarily less than legends. To put this in perspective, I think Marilyn Monroe is more of an icon whereas Elizabeth Taylor is a legend. Yet both are fondly and equally remembered.

Britney and Christina will be legends when they are gone. Britney will be remembered for her incredible dance skills and iconic videos; Christina will be remembered for her voice and controversies whether good or bad (same with Britney). Time has proven they will always be discussed, even when they aren't successful. They were also part of the teen pop explosion, an important period in music.

I honestly think a legend has to introduce something new or never before seen into the game. If you're a more talented artist with a career full of music that's not different at all, you shouldn't be a legend

Legend: a famous or important person who is known for doing something extremely well; a person or thing that inspires
Britney: Britney did pop better than anyone else in the late 90s and 2000s - Legend
Beyoncé: Beyonce did R&B better than anyone else in the 2000s - Legend
Christina: No pop girl has the voice that Christina has - Legend
Mariah: Nobody has had a lasting impact on pop/R&B like Mariah - Legend
Madonna: No other female has had as much impact on pop music as her - Legend
Michael: Need anything be said? Legend
All of the people I listed above are well known for doing something and have done it extremely well. It is also well known that all of these people have inspired others.
Icon: a person who is very successful and admired
Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Katy, Bruno, etc.
All of the people listed above have been very successful, but none of them are really known for doing anything extremely well yet. Also, these people have yet to really inspire others. Lady Gaga, Katy, etc. have all listed some of the people I listed under legends as inspirations. Nobody really says that they have been inspired by Rihanna, Katy, etc. yet. We will have to wait for the next generation of pop stars to see if any of them were inspired by this generation's pop stars. If this happens many of the people I listed as icons may become legends.

No.......
A legend shouldn't be determined on something so subjective, like "Britney did pop better than anyone else in the late 90s early 2000s." From a musical standpoint this is definitely not true at least, and there are many artists with much more acclaimed music.
You have to do much more than "make better music than anyone in one genre for a certain time period" to become a legend.
And when you say "no pop girl had the voice that Christina had" and? Why should that make her a legend? Because her voice was unique?
Mariah, Madonna & MJ are the only actual legends that you listed. Beyonce is most likely a future legend.

My fave Shakira is a legend. She has 20+ years of successful career, never had a flop era, critical acclaim, countless awards, respected by the industry, innovative music, global success, etc. After so much time in the industry her career already outlasted Janet Jackson(success wise) and its already comming for Madonna's longevity. The only reason she's overlooked its because she doesn't use controversy to sell.
My other fave Justin Timberlake is an Icon but he will be a legend soon when he releases more material, he has no competition since there are not many good male pop artists right now. Future Sex/Love Sounds is easily one of the most influential albums of this generation and that alone makes him an instant icon.

For me, Legends are a handful of people.
In the entertainment industry for example the only people I would count as Legends are: Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Elvis, Madonna.
The rest just doesn't compare to these.

But it isn't subjective, it is factual. She is the best selling teenage artist of all time and has the best selling album by a teenage artist of all time, all of which was accomplished during the late 90s and 2000s. She was also the eighth best selling artist of the decade and had an album inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and they only recognize the works of music legends.
I was trying to be fair and unbiased in my post, so I don't see why you are coming for Britney.

But I do think the words Legends and Icons are used VERY loosely around here.
Like my fave, Rihanna, is only scratching Icon status after 10 years of having a career.
It's gonna take her at least another 20 years before she's really a Legend.
Beyoncé is most likely going to be a Legend, but she will also have to keep it up for another 10 years before that.
I honestly don't think of people like Britney and Cher as Legends, at all, they are Icons, but lack the meaning and message with their persona and music to become Legends.

In what world would Beyonce and Rihanna be legends before Britney Spears?

Good thing I'm on the tablet or I'd write an essay. Cher was Madonna before Madonna, had several successful prime time television shows, successful films, and her BB stats that I don't need to mention. Half of our faves can thank Cher for making Autotune popular, and she's still selling out arenas at 67 or however old the bedazzled fossil truly is. Slay.
