Celine. I didn't know the other had a career before I was on ATRL, I thought she was just known for being Michael's sister.

Celine, obviously. I mean "My Heart Will Go On" is more iconic than Janet's career x5.

Commercial success that does automatically make you an icon, but not having it certainly doesn't give it to you either. Celine has more worldwide appeal, whether Janet's stans try to dismiss the "she's not global" excuse or not, it's clear Celine has more impact throughout the world as she was capable of reaching a bigger audience than Janet was.
In comparison Janet is pale; Celine wins this race. Her influence is definitely more spread throughout this planet than Janet's state-bound impact. But if you want to keep it cute, I guess you can say both ladies have their own iconic status in different areas

Her success stems from the fact that she has had a profound impact on peoples lives.
As far as I am concerned the true measure of a musicians impact is how many lives they've touched and impacted through music and I believe celien has done all these and so deserves her place in the league of legends.

Celine's only influenced with her voice. Janet created the blueprint the newer girls follow and has a ton of artists from other countries mentioning her as an influence. She also has one of the biggest selling singles of all time, along with Celine. So much for not being global

Janet of course. Celine has sold more but has only one truly iconic moment and we all know what that is... .

Well then if that's true, the same can be said about Mariah and Whitney. Janet's definitely more influential in the entertaining department, but as I said already, Celine's influence is spread farther than Janet's state-bound impact, and that is definitely something that is hard to deny. And no, Janet does not have one of the best-selling singles of all time. I'm sure you're checking this list for receipts and I'll tell you, Wikipedia estimations are generally off. Something such as certifications would be more sturdy to rely on
Celine is iconic in more areas than Janet, and the difference between those areas is significant. And for that very reason is why Celine is superior in this subject. End of

If Celine Dion had never existed, popular music would be the exact same as it is now.
If Janet Jackson had never existed, 25+ years worth of pop and R&B stars from within the U.S.A. and outside of it would be changed because they wouldn't have Jackson's template to lift from. THAT'S influence.

Celine's influence is in her voice. Janet influences with her overall image, evolution, dancing, and her vocal style as well. And yes, she does have one of the biggest selling singles of all time.
How can it be state bound if artists all over the world cite her as an inspiration? Having your style imitated over and over again is what shows influence, and Celine has that for sure but not even close to the way Janet does as an overall entertainer.

Maybe you should expand your musical pallet by actually researching music on your own instead of relying on what's on the radio. If you actually researched Janet's legacy you would see how drastically Celine pales in comparison from an artistic standpoint.

Basically. Celine hasn't wrote a song in her life, and Mariah and Whitney already got the praise for all the things she was trying to do. She was nothing but a pretty voice.
Janet changed the landscape.

Janet has influenced stars from every single continent, i have the receipts for that, so don't even try it. Celine has barely influenced anyone outside of Charice, for someone with such 'global' stats that is pretty pathetic, just because people buy her bland records doesn't mean they aspire to be like her.
And Together Again is one of the biggest selling singles of all time, in Europe it was the 2nd biggest selling female solo single in 1998 and achieved platinum certifications across that continet aswell as multi-platinum certs in Oceania (outdated certifications aswell)

I voted for Janet, although I feel like more of today's younger people would recognize "My Heart Will Go On" than any Janet song, I feel like being iconic also has a lot to do with making memorable visual statements in addition to legendary songs. "Rhythm Nation" alone is more iconic than anything Celine has done, and Janet's performances and videography are far more memorable, innovative, and revolutionary than Celine's body of work. Not to discount Celine, because she is an incredible vocalist in her own right and deserves to be ranked with the greats of course.

Celine. Even if for just My Heart Will Go On. People still do that scene from Titanic while singing that song.
Nobody cares about Janet. You won't see anybody getting a nose job or getting a tit out while singing Escapade
