But why Pitbull? DH is not your typical pop songs that can be remixed with rapper and still decent, it's a pop songs with trap influence for god sake. I am so having a meltdown right now picturing his annoying voice all over Dark God.

It was not one of the biggest hits though. Is it even in the top 10 best selling tracks of the year?

Mirrors has sold 3,160,00 in 2013 to date. This is slightly more than any Miley song managed in 2013, with We Can't Stop and Wrecking Ball both selling just under 3 million each.
Mirrors is the 12th best selling single of 2013. The 10th best selling single was Stay by Rihanna on 3,854,000. As you can see both of Miley's hits were about 1m short of making the top 10 best selling singles in 2013.

And not sure why my original post got a warning point. I am new to Atrl and posted factual data. Does Atrl penalise those who post factual data?

I don't think Miley's songs were among the biggest hits of the year either
...and this is what did you in:

Miley will be remembered for twerking and sticking her tongue out. No Grammy's for that though.

How are you guys coming for Miley and praise JT when Mirrors (a song WAY overplayed by radio) just barely cracked 3 million?

Of course Miley had a good year sales wise. I am not saying otherwise. But 3.2 million albums for Justin T > 757k album sales. There is nothing to dispute.
Billboard incorporate streaming figures in their Hot 100. Still doesn't help address the massive disparity in sales.
If sales are not important to you then why post in an iTunes discussion thread? Does not iTunes measure purely sales? Should not the focus be on sales when discussing iTunes charts?

Do not people talk about Miley twerking though? Is there not many references in the media to Miley twerking at the VMAs? Do you not think people will remember that? Or will they all forget about it? Do you not think people noticed Miley sticking out her tongue during performances and photo-shoots? Do you not think this will be remembered? I do. Again. Not sure why this deserved a WP. She got a lot of media buzz for these things but she got no Grammy nominations. So where did I lie?
So people get warning points on atrl for mentioning factual sales data and for mentioning Miley twerking will be remembered. OK, good to know.

Last Friday Night.
I see here ( http://www.itunescharts.net/us/artis...-night-tgif-1/) that it reached number one on itunes (maybe too soon), so I assumed that umich meant that when it was supposed to be #1 (due to radio peak), it stalled at #2.

Last Friday Night was against Rolling In The Deep, Give Me Everything, and Party Rock Anthem, all monster smashes
LFN's chart run was something like 4-4-4-3-3-3-2-2-2-1-1
or something

Yeah. It shot to #1 after the music video release. One of the biggest video effects. But well it's understandable. everyone I know at that time was talking about it (in high school) it was really fun

Wow! I've always thought it was some kind of minor hit that was lucky to be number one. Guess not.

Yes. LFN shot up iTunes very quickly due to the viral music video it had (it gained about 24 million views in a week or something). It topped HDS for two weeks following the music video, and then it peaked digitally while airplay was still on the rise. All these factors combined, the song stalled at #2 for a few weeks until Capitol discounted the original song and sent out a Missy Elliott-assisted remix (also discounted), and that helped it get the #1 spot.

You said Miley was the Pop star of 2013. She was not. That was Justin Timberlake. Sales don't lie. 20/20 experience Part 1 was the biggest selling album of 2013 AND his second album this year also has sold more than Bangerz.
Also Mirrors has sold more than 110,000 more than We Can't Stop and Wrecking Ball. And Suit and Tie is only 40,000 less in sales than We Can't Stop.
from oldbloke on UKMix
Quote:
Rank - Estimated Sales - TITLE - Artist
11 - 3,370,000 - WAKE ME UP - Avicii
12 - 3,160,000 - MIRRORS - Justin Timberlake
13 - 3,000,000 - GET LUCKY - Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams
14 - 2,990,000 - COUNTING STARS - OneRepublic
15 - 2,950,000 - WE CAN'T STOP - Miley Cyrus
16 - 2,940,000 - WRECKING BALL - Miley Cyrus
17 - 2,910,000 - SUIT & TIE - Justin Timberlake feat. Jay Z
|
So Justin had 2 albums that each sold more in 2013 than Bangerz AND his two biggest hits combined sold more than Miley's 2 biggest hits combined in 2013. The sales don't lie. Also Justin got several Grammy nominations for his music in 2013, Miley didn't get any. So Justin got more sales and more critical acclaim.

Sales don't lie.
Of course, you may think that getting youtube views is more impressive than selling albums or getting Grammy's nominations. I don't.
