Hardly the biggest pop star of the year. That was Justin Timberlake. He sold 3.2 millions albums in the US this year. Not sure how Bangerz meagre 757,000 compares really. Taylor's Red sold more in 2013 than Bangerz did and that album came out in 2012. Luke Bryan sold double Miley's album figures in 2013. Beyonce, Katy Perry also outsold Miley comfortably and will increase that margin in 2014.
Miley will be remembered for twerking and sticking her tongue out. No Grammy's for that though.

2013 was the year of streaming, not everything was based on album sales or single sales. To be one of the biggest stars of the year you must smash in lots of areas, and Miley didn't sell that much album wise, but she did well, same as her singles, was huge on streaming and had one hit airplay wise.
