Was Janet set for a $200 million tour by Beyonce's age? I mean, even if you count Janet's full career, the girl has only managed to earn half of what Beyonce has, she has barely sold half the records Bey has, she has earned less than half of the Grammys Bey has, she hasn't even earned a Billboard Artist of the Decade Award nonetheless a Billboard Millenium award, she can't even match Beyonce's weeks at #1 Hot 100 ( she's spent like a bit more than half of what Beyonce has at #1), she didnt even get to headline Glastonbury.
Janet's stats are laughable compared to Bey's and Bey is most definitely not done with her career.
TBH Beyonce's voice alone>>>>>>
The fact that you ignore post after post spilling tea all the time
The contributions to popular music that Janet made during the first 16 years of her musical career (1982-1998) FAR exceed those made by Beyoncé during the first 16 years of her musical career (1997-2013).
It's not an opinion, it's not up for debate, and nothing that anyone on ATRL says can change that.
I'd like the reciepts that show that Janet was the one who created those contributions, and that there weren't people behind her controlling what she had to do. Yes, I know she was a puppet.
Beyonce, by firing her manager and choosing to control everything she can means a great deal to the industry, and that directly means that everything she does is from her, there wasn't anyone telling her what to do.
Also, the question asks who will have the larger legacy not who has had the larger legacy.

1. If you're gonna call Janet a "puppet", then you need to call everyone who has ever released an album under a major label the same because all artists on such labels have to compromise.
2. No one was behind her "controlling" what she had to do in the way you're implying. Hell, her label didn't even wanna release her albums Rhythm Nation 1814 or The Velvet Rope (albums with more acclaim and influence on other performers than any Beyoncé album). Another example of Janet pushing for HER way would be when she went against the wishes of the big wigs at VH1 and performed a rather heavy song dealing with domestic abuse at the VH1 Fashion Awards.
3. Janet fired her father manager too, and it didn't take her nearly 15 years into her musical career to do so I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at there.
4. Janet's contributions to popular music have endured and they will continue to endure as long as your fave and the other girls (and guys for that matter) keep borrowing from the house SHE built. If Bey hasn't been able to build a larger legacy than Janet did in her first 15 years, then why should I think she will in the long run?

So in 20 years, what Beyonce will mostly be remembered for will be her tour grosses, earnings, record sales, weeks at #1, a music festival and number of Grammys? None of that has ANYTHING to do with legacy.
P.S. Janet's spent 3 weeks less at #1 on the Hot 100 than Beyonce has.

Stats=/= legacy. In addition, you have to look at stats in their proper CONTEXTS. A $200m grossing tour in 2013 cannot be said to be greater than a $60m grossing tour in 1990, because the $60m would be worth a LOT more in 2013.
In addition, Janet's stats are incredible PERIOD. And they hold a lot more significance than Beyonce's do, especially in terms of black female success.

#1- The reason Janet named her album CONTROL is because that's exactly what she got when she recorded the album
#2- Her father Joe Jackson was also her manager and she fired him in 1983/1984.
#3- She got together with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and her gave musical and creative input for the tracks, hence why her name is not just on the credits for songwriting and production, but musical arrangements.

And that's still Janet.
K I retract my argument about control.
We'll see what happens in the future though. Beyonce is part of the most powerful music couple this world has ever seen, and if you don't think that anything impactful in the near future will occur from that, idk what to tell y'all.

So desperate that you have to cling to earnings in a legacy thread. I doubt Beyonce earned most of that from her music career alone, it would have come from product endorsements and other ventures she has set out on. I guess Beyonce is bigger than Aretha Franklin too since she makes
more money than her. Whitney and Madonna haven't won the decade award either,
is Beyonce bigger than them? Janet's album sales exceed Beys and more
Importantly, her LEGACY exceeds her too, the receipts have been handed to you left right and centre. Go find some other artist to downplay with your pathetic delusion.
Your proof of that?
I just asked 2 people if they know who she is and they responded "no."
I'm just gonna go ahead and assume everything you say is lie.
People on ATRL make the common mistake of mixing celebrity and contribution together. How significantly one has contributed to music and/or the cultural, social and political importance of those contributions is what makes a legend.
How frequently a person is on TV, in the tabloids, heard on the radio etc. has nothing to do with musical legacy.

My grandparents don't know who Beyonce is, whole they knew who Janet was when I went to see her back in 2011, and a friend in my school a couple of years ago didn't know who Beyonce was. You wanna play this stupid game ill be happy to play.

They're called reciepts.
This topic is not just about the music career alone.
You're argument says that reciepts don't mean anything, if anything that's the only subjective way we can compare careers of different people.
It seems to me that some of you are biased because you have experienced Janet Jackson, but it's clear that today no one really knows Janet. Idk if its because her legacy just isn't as big as you guys say it is or because something completely blocked out everything about her. You guys wouldn't really know what I mean because you guys are old and know her, but the average young person today has been blocked to even know of her existence. We know of Mariah, Aretha, Celine, MJ, Whitney, the Beatles, the Bee Gees, Streisand and many other legends, but in all seriousness, I don't think Janet's impact exploded into the future as it should have. Maybe it's because of Michael, or maybe it's because of the SB performance but the fact of the matter is that she is that she is different from the others.

So you have changed the thread from "bigger legacy" to " more succesful"....Make up your mind.
