1. in the beginning, It's steep, you get used to it and love it later on.
2. It depends on the app, it could limit functionality or make it full but for a number of days. For example, instagraph trial gives you 30 insta uploads, and you can only upload one pic once a day.
3. Check any review website to see that, I personally recommend gsmarena.com because they have browsing, music playback, video playback , tacking times on 2g and 3g etc.

I have Lumia 520 so I can answer you.
1)It is like the easiest thing in the world
2)Usually Apps don't have demos Games do. But in apps it is like there are 10 sections in the app and they only give you 1 section . I don't try out so much app demos.
3)I am not gonna lie connecting to a Wi-Fi eats your battery but texting and listening music will not eat your battery life. It's been literally 23 hours since i charged my phone and it is on %93 because I was only listening music and texting.

I mean... it's less than $100 off contract tho.

Those features come in the 620, which is something like $150-ish I believe.

Budget is very subjective over at Apple HQ since the 16GB variant clocks in at $549 for off-contract pricing. Compared to the Lumia 520 which you can get for under $100 off-contract you have no competition.

I'd go with the Z1, personally. But only because I have terrible luck with OTHER people pouring drinks on my phone and having that water resistant security is very worth it for me. I should probably stop taking out my phone while socializing with sloppy drunks, but lbr that isn't happening.

2. I don't use anything, I just don't tend to bump into any sites requiring flash :/. I've seen some apps in the store for this, but I don't think any of them are free. Sorry I couldn't help more!

It was for 920 too! It gives you a sort of screen saver where is shows a clock, an app for data usage and the most important radio.
