She didn't say she didn't care if the single flopped. I'm sure EVERY pop artist wants their singles to do well, Gaga is no exception. All she said was that she wants to sell albums, because she makes albums as a full body of work not a way to release singles. Album sales carry more weight than single sales (maybe not on atrl), but if someone would rather spend $15 on an album than $1.29 on one song, it says something about the artist/album.

But I get where you're coming form.

Why don't people realize singles are important? I'd rather have a 6x platinum song on a gold album than a platinum album that sold 0 singles.

Having hit singles means you are relevant to the general population.
Having a high selling album with no hits just means you have a big fanbase that will swallow your shtick even when you are irrelevant in pop music.
