Gurl once you pave the way to pop music... people won't forget you, most pop stars right now were influence by her and there is no denying the fact that bitch still makes decent pop music.
Britney aint going anyhwere wheather them haters like it or not!
She can release an album and sit the entire day and it will still chart!

And seeing as you want to bring her up, since 2011, our dear Beyoncé has been sustained by a Superbowl performance, a documentary and a well received world tour. What else would you require sustain her in the absence of new material?

Beyonce is more of a celebrity than Britney since 2008. Her endorsement deals are big, personal life is more interesting, attends celebrity events and has celebrity friends/partner. Britney, since 2008, does nothing of the sort. Barely any endorsement works, personal life is bland, hardly attends celebrity events and doesn't have any relationships with celebrities since 2003.

She knows how to make hits. And her fanbase is impressionable so they cling onto everything she does.
I mean, if a new artist performed the way she did (and still had to rely on lip syncing) s/he would be laughed right out the front door.

However, she is still a big force, because she has the ''it'' factor. She is one of the figures that define pop music. Her music is not out of this world, it's pretty basic actually, but once she made it to the top, she stayed as a force there.

Yea after 2004,3 platinum albums,4 nubmer ones, biggest radio hit,7 VMAS,Grammy nomination,2007 bring her according to many sources best album with Blackout and you call her music basic?Toxic,Gimme More,Piece Of Me,Hold It Against and many others says HI!

HIAM didn't have any deal. It smashed on its own.

She started out as a pop phenomenon, riding the waves of teen-pop. Then when her hype died down in 2001, she remained in the public eye thanks to the media and controversy. She was so huge at her peak that it would have been near impossible to just forget about her. Then MTV decided to hype her "comeback" in 2008 and that kinda cemented her status in pop culture even more. Since then she's been able to score a few hits, so that's kept her relevant until now.
It's really not so strange, considering. P!nk's also been relevant for 15 years, with far less hype and Beyoncé's been relevant for 16 years with far less controversy (and music for that matter). Some artists just matter.

So why didn't #thatPower become a big hit? It's clearly more catchy that S&S, and also features an artist (Justin Bieber) at his peak in his career.

Let's fast forward to today now. The controversy Beyonce caused in 2013 is more than all of Britney's controversy combined POST BREAKDOWN. I'm not coming for Bey, I'm saying Britney isn't 'scandal girl' anymore and hasn't been since early 2008.
Anyway this isn't about Beyonce, The answer is she has 'IT'

Because she's a legend. Practically EVERY pop girl out right now has named her as one of their main inspirations and grew up listening to and watching her. Her peak was out of this world huge and even now, 15 years later, she's continuing to deliver musically and stay ahead of the trends. Blackout was named the most influential album of the last 5 years and HIAM brought dubstep to the mainstream. The fact that she got three top 10 hits with her SEVENTH studio album shows that she has huge longevity and people do not get tired of her. She just has 'it'

Britney sang more on the song and has about equal camera time and the most referenced line of the song is 'Britney bitch' and 'All eyes on us' both from Britney. Lastly, will.iams biggest song (prior to S&S) has 130 million VEVO views whereas Britney's I Wanna Go has 140 . Even wil.i.am himself gave Britney the credit.
She's #9 on the BB Social 50. A chart using a formula blendingan artist weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and weekly song plays, as measured by Next Big Sound.
Her album has been included in several 'Most anticipated..' lists and her clock just caused a SH*TSTORM.
She's still relevant.

Because she's an icon.
She's not talented, she's not particularly pretty, she doesn't have any charisma... but she is an icon of the early 2000s kids who are now in their mid-20s and are still buying her music.

But at the heart of it all, Beyoncé is still known as a Pop/RnB artist. Making a significant contribution to the musical scene- the Superbowl, Glastonbury, Presidential events, award shows.
Britney's biggest contribution to music since Circus was hook girl on a Will.i.am song.

It's her name. While she doesn't have the success she use to have, her name keeps her going.
