If you translate how many copies it sold in Canada to the US, it'd be more than 800,000; the biggest debut ever by over 200k. Just to put it into perspective.

Agreed, but she's also the biggest in Canada (where this article is relevant to) + other areas of the world!

I'm only pressed by the fact I got a warning point.
I don't hate her though, I love most of the "One of the Boys".
Teenage Dream was commercially successful generic crap, like most of the songs Xtina releases these days (and I'm counting with her features).
Let me see Katy be creative and "dark". Roar is not dark. It's generic pop.
Oops, another warning point coming for me.

Oh the dark comment was a joke?
OKay, so I'll only bash the generic part.
Thanks for clearing that for me.
*No shade with this, really*

Why do you link creativity and being "dark" together? It's as if there's a formula to making good music.
She makes the music that is enjoyable to listen to. It doesn't have to solve the world's problems or be something that carries a philosophical meaning or that screams, "Look at me, I'm trying to make you think I'm a serious artist."
Stay pressed.

I'm not linking directly creativity and dark together.
But she did mention "dark" (now i get it was only a comment she made).
Now, isn't creativity important for being an artist?
I personally don't listen to music just because it's enjoyable to listen to. Of course there are exceptions, but my main focus on finding good music is what message I can take out of them.
"Thinking of You" had a message for me, just like "Self Inflicted", and I still listen to those songs and actually feel something.
But hearing "Firework" isn't the same for me. TOTGA isn't the same. I personally feel Katy has lost her artistry and now she's focused on making music for the sake of charts and certifications and making Katy Cats happy.
I'm not pressed, as I used to love Lady GaGa, Brandy, Ciara, Katy Perry, Mariah, Leona, Shakira and even Colbie Caillat.
Even Lotus doesn't sound the same for me, it sounds poorly crafted and thought out.
Before you accuse someone of being pressed about Katy, hear the reason first.

Peronsally your comment doesn't even make any sense all but no one's forcing you to listen to these music first and foremost. And maybe you're just too above pop music since you listed basically all of the pop acts. You can always fall back on to your obscure musicians/artist .
and It takes a lot of work and creativity to create/craft a single pop song/pop music..... more than you think

So if a song doesn't give you the feels, you suddenly turn against the artist? Well, aren't you a great person.
I think Katy is just better at making music that strikes a chord with the general public. It's as if you are faulting her for making songs that many people like.
She has always been making music for an audience, so I see nothing wrong with "making Katy Cats happy."

Actually, I'm missing a lot of acts there.
Mainly the ones I think always reinvent themselves in each record they make.
I love pop music, I love pop culture and I love pop art.
But that's not all the music I love, I have really expanded tastes, that go from pop to metal, disco to kizomba, and many other genres.
I know i'm not forced to listen to Katy or any other artist, but as a music lover, I always like to listen to a artist's new song or album. That's the only way I can know if they evolve or not.
But hey, I have a lot of tastes, and the fact I have loved Katy in the past, doesn't mean i'm not going to in the future
