Every single radio station in the country is hammering them. They have over 100m audience impressions and almost 6k plays in a week. That's why. Radio1, Radio 2, Capital...the whole shebang. Makes perfect sense. Everyone's hearing the song. And radio on that scale here makes a huge impact.

i just bought the album last night & listened to its entirety. its very late 70s / early 80s electro/funk/disco and the sounds are very similar to that of michael jackson Off The Wall and Thriller albums. its really good but i am still shocked why it got such critical acclaim

Deserved. The album draws lots of funk, disco and 80's pop influences and it kinda reminds me of Kaputt by Destroyer where the artist is trying to make a modern sounding version of popular old albums of certain genres. I think the album would've been near perfect if it was a 10 track album though.

People are craving for this kind of this sound right now. They're done with ballads and they're done with overproduced ****** pop. DP couldn't have found a better year than this year to release this album. Don't forget they got bigger and more noticeable after the Kanye collab back in '07 as well. They did the soundtrack for Tron too and people basically found out who they were and what they were doing. I also think Justice made them gain popularity a lot. Their sound is heavily influenced by Daft Punk and it sure made me double check who they really were back in '08.

It's not the same as MJ's Off The Wall. The album got critical acclaim because it was a breath of fresh air. We have too much seriousness in albums right now. Everybody wants to be freaking different. The dark themes are all over the place. We got a very refreshing album with a mixture electronic, funk and instruments in RAM. It's definitely a refreshing experience. Most artists forgot that music is about feeling good. They are too obsessed with their craft and think that they can only create a masterpiece with a dark themed album. Daft Punk will change it and I am very positive with that.

It is really mind blowing how they went from an albums artist to a singles and albums artist. The 90s fans made this happen. We need more of those since sales are SLUMPING. I also believe that the blame of low sales shouldn't be blame to digital piracy but to the content of the music we are being catered to.

It is expected to debut at number one this Sunday when the Official Albums Chart is announced. Currently, it is outselling the rest of the top 10 entries combined.

The French duo's album has beaten Michael Bublé's To Be Loved, which previously held the title after having sold 121,000 copies in its first week of sale. Currently, Random Access Memories has sold 12,000 more copies than the Canadian singer's.

Meanwhile, 'Get Lucky' - the first single to be released from Daft Punk's album - is also the fastest-selling single of the year so far, after having sold nearly 700,000 copies since it went on sale almost six weeks ago. (source)
