He even changed the constitution just so he could be re-elected indefinitely. He was a ****ing dictator in disguise.

A democratic official is not one that keeps changing the constitution so he can continue to run for office and get elected by corrupt voting methods.

He manipulated poor people. He had several schools and hospitals and he had this thing called "Mercal", a place where poor people could go and ask for free food. All run by Cubans btw, while Venezuelans had no jobs to look. That earned him the poor people's vote.

Middle-High class people didn't support him mainly because of the fact that there are practically no jobs available here and even having a Laws, Communication and even Engineering degree you may find yourself unemployed for the rest of your life.

But they voted for him again and the elections weren't proved rigged. Wether you like him or not, many people believed in him.

While that is an unfair assessment as not ALL the world's problems are America's fault, the US government certainly has a lot of blame for many issues in South America at least, starting with the various coups and dictatorships it was behind. In very simplified terms, the American government engineered coup de etats for several countries which had democratically elected communist governments because it wanted to stop the spread of communism at all costs, imposing its own ideals about the world on other countries by force, which is a form of imperialism. In place of the democratically elected governments it ousted, it put military regimes that killed thousands and committed horrific human rights violations.
