To those who didn't watch her Behind The Music special, they wanted her to make pop music but she said no thank you. She wanted to stay true to her country self, release a country record, and be only a country singer.

I wouldn't, however, say that being a country singer is harder though. Country is a pretty easy genre to be in and be successful in. Her success with American Idol and their audience helped more with her exposure and success. She made new fans (country and non country) after idol for those who didn't watch, but still had a lot of her fans (country and non country) who helped her win afterwards.

I do not see Carrie having more worldwide album sales than Kelly even if she becomes pop now. Her country fans will be angry and stop buying her albums just like what it did
To nicki minaj. The pop audience are fickle while the country audience are loyal. They buy albums more than the pop audience did. To put it bluntly, she will never touch Kelly's worldwide album sales.

No one has any idea how Kelly was nominated for that CMA considering she had one country-version of a single in the period, which kinda flopped on country radio.
Kelly's sales surge was higher because the song is new. It was the first time it was performed, of course it's going to raise higher than a song that's already platinum and just peaked on country radio.

That has nothing to do with the question. The question was, will Carrie ever sell more records than Kelly?

Everyone thought she'd be a flash in the pan and she fought to get Miss Independent on her debut album which was the biggest hit from the record. Everyone wanted her to record a different kind of music and she was pulled every which direction because she was the guinea pig.

Kelly again had to fight her label to make Breakaway. Clive Davis didn't even want Because Of You on the record and it ended up being arguably her most successful WW hit. I could go ON and ON. Not to mention the incredibly public feud with Clive that many thought would end her career in the industry.

Bottom line is, Kelly's had more than her fair share of battles and significantly helped pave the way for other Idol contestants and her success allowed the show to have credibility.

I don't really think Kelly paved the way for the other contestants/allowed the show to have credibility. I love her and all, and she is no doubt a huge success for the show, but if she paved the way for other contestants, how come the next two seasons resulted in flop winners? No talent show really has credibility. It's completely random as to who will be a winner. Looking at Idol, the only superstars are Kelly and Carrie. A few others have had some hits, but none have proven that they're a staple in their genre. I think Kelly's win was great and all, but I don't think it made it any easier for any other Idol post-win.

It's never a guaranteed thing when you win a show that you'll be successful. It all comes down to the winner and whether or not they have the drive and ability to take it to the next level. I'm not at all discrediting Carrie's success or saying that she had a breezy road. But I strongly believe that Kelly had the hardest road because she was the guinea pig and as I said, she had everything to prove. I get your point and all, but I almost think winning first is also a good thing. Nobody really expects much from you, and you still get the whole "first idol" novelty where it's a big deal since you're the first one. Not very many people can name all of the other idols since they've been lumped into a group that includes every other hopeful. People will remember the first because they're the first.

This isn't the point of the thread though. Carrie simply won't outsell Kelly's WW sales.
