Honey, Carrie was Country through and through. She was spitting out Country vibes on almost every Idol performance. There was no way people actually wanted her to be a pop star over a Country star.

I do not think Carrie would be as successful as she is if she went the Pop route. It's much harder to be/stay relevant in Pop than it is in Country because the field is MUCH bigger. Not to mention Pop albums don't normally sell as much as Country. She was smart to do the Country album, that's what she loves and is good at. So, I don't think she left much on the table by not "selling out".
