The lowdown: Like the kings and queens she references in this booming arena twanger, Taylor ruled the world—or, at least, the music industry—during the indomitable chart run of her second album, Fearless. Thanking her band and her fans, she celebrates those impressive and unexpected accomplishments (including a Grammy for Album of the Year and a CMA Award for Entertainer of the Year) in this fitting closer to Speak Now.
The vote: At least seven voters didn't enjoy hearing a commemoration to Taylor's lauded young career, awarding "Long Live" less than a 5. But 11 scores in the 8 range helped the song place in the middle of the pack.
Best line: "And the cynics were outraged.../'Cause for a moment a band of thieves/in ripped-up jeans got to rule the world"
FURIOUS. I AM FURIOUS.
And the last verse/bridge always brings me to tears.
I find it almost ironic that her brand is this innocent country girl and she has all these boyfriends. Maybe she likes dating because it inspires her to write. I mean, even someone with a sexed-up image like Rihanna seems to get around less than her.
The lowdown: Free from dirty laundry and heartbreak, this low-key ode to a relationship that others don't believe in might be Taylor's loveliest moment on Speak Now. Originally a bonus track on the deluxe edition of the album, it was released as the sixth and final single, reaching #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming her sixth #1 country hit.
The vote: While "Ours" didn't receive many 10's, that was offset by ten scores in the 9 range and only six below 6, allowing the song to nearly finish in the top twenty.
Best line: "The verdict comes from those with nothing else to do/The jury's out, but my choice is you"
I love this song .
But oh well , didn't think it'd get this far .
Watch Fanboy celebrate about Sparks Fly lasting longer than Ours , next on this thread .
Overall score: 7.00 High score: 10 (genetic fail)
Low score: 3 (Sept, Great Username, jinzo)
The lowdown: In Robyn's world, love is pain. That theme comes to forefront in this midtempo electro groove, in which she cautions two young sweethearts that "love hurts when you do it right." Co-written and produced by Klas Ĺhlund, it is the fourth track on Body Talk Pt. 1, but was not included on the Body Talk compilation.
The vote: With over half its votes in the 6-8 range, "Cry When You Get Older" fell right in the middle of those scores—and the countdown.
Best line: "I need some kind of miracle, 'cause I lost all my faith in science"
