The lowdown: Free from dirty laundry and heartbreak, this low-key ode to a relationship that others don't believe in might be Taylor's loveliest moment on Speak Now. Originally a bonus track on the deluxe edition of the album, it was released as the sixth and final single, reaching #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming her sixth #1 country hit.
The vote: While "Ours" didn't receive many 10's, that was offset by ten scores in the 9 range and only six below 6, allowing the song to nearly finish in the top twenty.
Best line: "The verdict comes from those with nothing else to do/The jury's out, but my choice is you"
The lowdown: Neither the small-town people nor the small-time beats can satisfy Robyn in this hypnotic stomper featuring Röyksopp. The dark and foreboding production creates the unnerving sense that Robyn's displeasure might just send her over the edge. It is the sixth track on Body Talk Pt. 1 and the ninth on the Body Talk compilation.
The vote: "None of Dem" is another track that seemingly should have finished higher, with ten 10's and an additional five scores in the 9 range. But once again, ten scores of 5 or below dropped its average considerably. (It was, at various points, in the top ten, the top twenty and outside the top thirty.)
Best line: "None of these boys can dance/Not a singe one of dem stand a chance"
Even though I knew this was coming, I'm still shocked about how polarizing the song is among voters. I think it's brilliant.
Also Jake Gyllenhaal and all those randos from her pre-fame days. Any others that I'm forgetting?
I find it almost ironic that her brand is this innocent country girl and she has all these boyfriends. Maybe she likes dating because it inspires her to write. I mean, even someone with a sexed-up image like Rihanna seems to get around less than her.
The line "I loved you from the very first day" is spelled out in capital letters in the lyrics to Dear John in the songbook, so it's definitely about him.
Ours is only rumored to be about him, but Ours, Dear John and Superman all have lyrics about being in love with someone with a bad reputation that others disapprove of.
