So your perspective is that people should look at the whole show before jumping to conclusions about what is and isn't shocking/offensive, and that if it has a point, the artist shouldn't tone down their show to appease people who are offended?
Intriguing.
Not the whole show. It's like an 8 minute video. And I would say yes they should to save themselves from looking ignorant.
The question remains... Have we reached the point where dressing up as Hitler in Israel is something to be celebrated? Should creative freedom come at the expense of dredging up memories of one of the most horrific events in human history?
I don't think anyone is celebrating it, but she shouldn't be prevented from doing it.
Now Nicole, that's rather insensitive of you. I wouldn't want you to get warning points for suggesting that all Muslims are violent.
Hyperbole. I thought Gaga stans of all people would be able to recognize exaggeration for dramatic effect.
Anyway, why would anyone make a Vin-like thread instead of enjoying the month-long break from that kind of repetitive flamebait which grew stale over a year ago?
You do raise an interesting point in bringing up the recent controversy in Jakarta.
It seemed that many members here felt that Gaga should "make minor changes in the concert" in order to avoid offending the country she would have performed in. They were largely unable to point to what "minor" changes would strip Gaga's entire show of its message.
I would ask... isn't a short clip from an interlude much easier to remove than two hours of songs and speeches? If the benefit is that she doesn't bring up horrific memories of a terrifying time in human history... is it worth it?
Anyway, why would anyone make a Vin-like thread instead of enjoying the month-long break from that kind of repetitive flamebait which grew stale over a year ago?
MTE. After reading the first post I thought he was unbanned or something
I think it is quite disrespectful. She can get the message across without reminding people of such a tragic event.
The only reason I say this was as a result of a school trip to Germany I went on a few years back. My Spanish teacher is Jewish, and we were all in a Sports museum being told about the Olympics. As soon as Hitler and the holocaust were mentioned, she suddenly left the building.
People may have relatives who have died in the holocaust. The difference between that and Jakarta is that it's the fundamentalists putting their message on the artist, whereas here it's the artist putting the contentious message on the audience.
So in such a respect, Madonna's can be deemed aiming to be offensive whereas Gaga's really shouldn't as there's no direct offence.
