Always Be My Baby

Even Usher has done Pop songs, but overall both of them will be remembered for their R&B legacy imo.

They also have the Biggest Female/Male R&B Albums Ever, and some of the biggest R&B hits ever.

This just isn't true. Daydream and Music Box are POP albums, through and through. And btw- the only iconic R&B Mariah song is the Fantasy remix. All those others are completely forgotten, except maybe WBT but I'll give it to you just cause of its initial success. The lack of recurrent play speaks for itself, though.

Usher has released a FEW pop singles. 20+ R&B/Urban songs. Mariah has released just as many, if not more, pop songs. Fantasy is a Pop song, it has an urban remix. There's a difference. Always Be My Baby is a pop song. It has an R&B tinge.

Using your standards, Rihanna would be considered an R&B artist.

Omg at the people trying to dispute this
You're absolutely right. They ARE the King and Queen. I still hear Burn, U Got It Bad, Confessions, and more on urban radio. Usher's dominance and impact >>>

Mariah, her ability to evolve as an artist and revolutionize R&B in the process We Belong Together is an iconic masterpiece along with Fantasy. Just unbelievable.

Both went Diamond. Both revolutionized R&B. Both are the Best-Selling Female/Male R&B Albums EVER.

To even say Beyonce has passed what Mariah has done, and Timberlake has passed what Usher has done would be an extreme fabrication.

Being the top artist CURRENTLY does not make you the King/Queen of a Genre. If we went by those standards than Ashanti would've once been Queen of R&B

It's about biggest impact, achievements, and overall career the past 20+ years.

add influential to successful artists both in the US and internationally.

There is actually an extremely successful group in Africa who has sold millions of album (obviously not in the US) that their career is based on Usher. They even look like him.

If people actually broaden their horizon outside of the US or actually check outside atrl, they will find successful international artists that he influenced

I'm not even gonna argue with you on Mariah.

If you put Madonna and Beyonce on a stage, Beyonce would do better too -- does that make her the Queen of Pop?...

Do most people consider Usher the king of R&B now? I remember around the time confessions came out he was getting that title, but that has not been the case for him in recent years. Usher honestly always had a pop way about him, so I personally wasn't surprised when he went that route full blown in later years.

R&B is really dead, so I don't think anyone is called the King currently.

Miguel, Frank, Chris, etc are too new and haven't had anything amazing done in their careers.

Ginuwine, Boyz II Men, Mario, and most huge R&B stars of the past have faded.

But Usher is CURRENT and still makes hits, along with having an AMAZING past -- so why wouldn't he be a candidate atleast?

And Beyonce is definitely above Mariah in the R&B field too.

Nobody considers Mariah R&B. She is seriously just like Justin in that aspect. They definitely make R&B music (Mariah since 1997, Justin for most of his solo career) but nobody sees them that way. They are both pop stars. Mariah's career went to **** the second she turned R&B and her signature songs are pop (AIWFCIY, Hero, WY globally, Fantasy remix - only urban one).

Beyonce is someone who treads the line really well and Usher too

 Your comprehension skills are terrible

If it were 20 years Mariah would've ruled R&B all through the 2000s but that title clearly went to Beyoncé (which is why I posted that receipt).

Mariah was the queen for maybe 10 years, and then Beyoncé came and took over.

 Umm...

Daydream was the Best-Selling Female R&B Album of the 90's.

She did R&B, started falling, y'all said she couldn't have the same career with R&B.

The Emancipation of Mimi then became the Best-Selling Female R&B Album of the 00's (and that album is PURE R&B).

Mariah has outsold Beyonce doing Pop, Mariah has outsold Beyonce doing R&B. I don't get why y'all discredit her so much.

Why do you fail to understand OVERALL? It's not about who's hot for 1-2 years, it's the LAST 20 YEARS. Whether Mariah's peak was long ago, or recently -- she's done better than Beyonce the last 20 years OVERALL.

This is proven.

And when she did do pure R&B she got the #1 Song of the Decade AGAIN, and the #1 Female R&B Album AGAIN.

So why discredit her? We know she has had impact whether the music was R&B or Pop. She's Queen of the last 20 years.
