It's coming for Art Direction and Costume Design nominations though. The visuals are gorgeous but they feel too vibrant/flashy and don't capture the haunting feeling that the book had.
It's looks expensive. The cinematography seems great. I don't think it'll be any kind of masterpiece though because it's Baz Luhrman plus Carey Mulligan still looks too much like Michelle Williams so it's weird to see her paired with DiCaprio after Shutter Island.

I'd argue that you may have misinterpreted the book then -- the whole book was about excess, flashiness for flashiness' sake, and how when you get beneath the glimmering, glittering exterior, there may be something haunting underneath. I'm sure the movie will get there, but of course the trailer is going to show off the bangs and whistles while only hinting at the smaller character moments. I see a lot of "haunting" in this trailer, especially as it goes on.

I am aware of what the book is about but this just seems too stylized/modernized, it gives more of a Moulin Rouge! atmosphere than the melancholy vibe that the book had.
I know it's just the trailer but I expected better, plus I'm not sure Luhrmann can handle this type of movie.
I didn't get a feeling for what it's going to be like tonally.
Really? I thought this was a tonally amazing trailer. I loved how there were glimpses at how dark the story gets, and just how much the characters come unraveled, as the trailer went on.
