All I heard her say is Paula started it... She did. Jennifer wasn't an active popular musician when she started on AI like Paula.

What? Paula's last album was in 1995.

Huh, what did she start? Didn't Nicole Scherzinger go through a talent show?

She said Paula started the female judging thing and she started the whole singing competition. She made it happen.

Paula paved the way for JLO, Nicole, Britney, Christina and herself as judge
Kelly paved the way for carrie underwood, chris daughtry, leona lewis and all the other artist that came out of singing competitions.

don't even go there, that show wasn't even watched by 100 people,

1995, 1985, 2005, both were washed out with American audiences at the time at least music wise. So Paula started it. Britney and Kelly have moved the stakes up. They're not washed out but they're not exactly Perry, Gaga and Rhanna.

Oh, I wasn't listening to the whole video. I was like why isn't this at the 1:50 mark. Well she didn't start it (as I do believe Will came first in the UK) BUT she did kind of start the rebirth of the talent show in America. Well she didn't create or produce the forums rebirth, she just helped make it very successful.

I just realized I forgot Xtina in the evolution of reality show judges. Why is she so damn forgettable?

There is truth to what she's saying. At least for talent competitions in the U.S. anyway.

Absolutely. Kelly is the contestant people know, love and remember.

Aguilera actually started it all for this generation of reality talent comps on Star Search without her Kelly wouldn't be where she's at being her idol on top of that, and breaking Kelly out with Miss Independent. The legend also did judging before Paula.

In a recent interview promoting the upcoming ABC reality singing competition, Duets, Kelly Clarkson took credit for the success of all singing competitions.

When asked about previous Idol and X Factor judge Paula Abdul and current Idol judge, Jennifer Lopez, Clarkson looked slightly bewildered, stating, “I’m a perfect person to do it because I’m the one that started it all in the beginning.”

In the USA, perhaps. Long before American Idol there was Pop Idol and Will Young.
