Yeah see the general population don't know that. But you probably know Kelly was the first American Idol winner. Plus, did any of those other artists have a moment like this?

The public didn't have a vote in Star Search though. All acts were given a score by judges. If there was a tie, the studio audience voted. The shows now are on a much bigger scale because it's a nation-wide vote.

And if we're really going back, it should be noted that Frank Sinatra and Patsy Cline were discovered in singing competitions as well

As much as I love the QUEEN Kelly Clarkson.....

She's actually the THIRD PERSON to be crowned as an IDOL around the world. ORIGINAL POP IDOL Will Young is the first, followed by the POLISH IDOL Alicja Janosz, THEN THE IDOL QUEEN HERSELF.

Will actually sang with Kelly during the finale in 2002, Alicja and Kelly met during the World Idol in 2003.

But in a way, her success significantly paved the way for reality singing competition to dominate the television screens around the world. So, she's one of the Pioneers.

Still, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THE ORIGINAL AND THE BEST AMERICAN IDOL NO MATTER WHAT.

Until now I didn't even know Beyoncé was on StarSearch. And that's not how she got famous, she made herself a name with Destiny's Child. It's not like she's introduced as "Beyoncé Knowles, former StarSearch contestant" or something. BTW, who remembers StarSearch? It's not like it has started a revolution in reality tv like Idol did

Oh, I wasn't listening to the whole video. I was like why isn't this at the 1:50 mark. Well she didn't start it (as I do believe Will came first in the UK) BUT she did kind of start the rebirth of the talent show in America. Well she didn't create or produce the forums rebirth, she just helped make it very successful.
