I AM constantly speaking to parents who are deeply concerned about their children’s behaviour and self-esteem being damaged by a tide of inappropriate music videos and sexual behaviour of celebrities in the spotlight.

They are distressed at how their child is learning to dress or behave in a promiscuous way because they are exposed to sexy pictures and videos on a daily basis.

Parents have little control over what they are watching — most of these raunchy videos are played throughout the day and acts like Lady Gaga and Rihanna perform regularly in skimpy outfits before the watershed.

I completely agree with Cameron’s campaign. It’s time music videos were given a certificate rating.

I recently spoke with a couple who were distressed at their 12-year-old daughter’s behaviour. They told me she wanted to dress like “a hooker” when she went to her school disco and that she wanted to be “sexy” like her friends.

She also put pressure on her mother to buy a top that was practically see-through, because Rihanna worse something similar in a video.

The parents were extremely upset at their little girl even knowing the meaning of the word “sexy”.

But they can do little to shield her from this way of thinking when her idols are portraying themselves in this way. This couple are not alone — this battle is being fought by parents across the country. They feel their kids are losing out on innocent childhoods because of pop stars.

When Katy Perry is lying naked on a pink cloud singing about California girls wearing bikinis, it is a bad image for youngsters.

The parents I speak to find that their daughters are powerfully affected by the images and think it is a “cool” way to behave.

Adolescence is a time when young people can be hugely influenced by popular culture and as a society we have a duty to protect them from this negative way of behaving.

If they are constantly seeing gorgeous women gyrating in outfits suitable for lap-dancing clubs, this becomes the norm. It is what they think they should be like.

Adolescent boys are also influenced — they feel that they must live up to a “pimping” image. This means disrespecting women — as many rappers do in videos — and treating them like objects.

It’s sad that many young children I speak to feel all that counts is sexiness.

They do not think their personalities, or how accomplished they are, matter. Adults are past being influenced by the videos but the same is not true for teens.

We must make it clear that they should not be exposed to this content until they’re at an age where they have the confidence to filter out the negative and damaging messages.

I don't think he has ever watched a Katy Perry video.

The most sexual was what, like I Kissed a Girl, and all that had was a pillow fight in it. I can't at him trying to ban bikinis in music videos in case children see it.

If you're gonna ban them in music videos what about the hundreds of TV programmes that have them? (~with Katy lying naked on a cloud you were able to see less than you could if she was actually wearing a bathing suite.)

I hope Home & Away and Neighbors also get 18 certificates, one of them is pretty much set on a beach and it's on at 5pm, THINK OF THE CHILDREN! They might see a stomach! A STOMACH!!!!

Whatever happened to the MOTHER being the role model for her daughter? or the big sister? or the aunt? or the grandmother? ect These parents need to stop relying on these celebrities to be their child's role model. THEY need to be the role model and if they think these artists like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna , Nicki Minaj are bad influence, then it's the parents job to talk to their kids about it. It's not Katy Perry's job to keep it PG for your kid or any other artist for that matter.

It's parents jobs to raise their children. Don't blame artists for lazy parenting and Katy Perry's videos aren't really raunchy although Dressin Up hasn't been released yet
