I Will Always Love You is almost 20 years old. In your opinion, should they have allowed her to re-chart on the Hot 100? And if so, should they let other songs that are almost two decades old re-chart? Keep in mind that after the death of Michael three years ago resulted in explosive sales, but he was ineligible to re-chart.

So far it's unconfirmed if they are changing the rules or if they were only making Whitney an exception.

It should. They need to change the rules. It's unfortunate that Jackson's songs couldn't chart but that's just the way it is

I'm sure they'll explain why it charted. Maybe it had something to do with radio airplay, but I would assume that MJ's songs had a lot of airplay also. Billboard's been changing a lot of rules lately lol

Yes. The rules were silly. If a song is popular again, for whatever reason, it should chart.

I do think the rules are silly and if a song is popular again it should be elegible to chart, but it would be unfair to those two imo

This is a new Billboard rule. Just like when they allowed the catalog albums to chart again in the Billboard 200 after they couldn't chart when MJ died.

Well, if they let non-singles chart on the Hot100, I don't see why an old song shouldn't.
Although if they let IWALY cart, they should let all the other songs chart as well.

No. If they are going to make changes like this, they need to make it at a time where it doesn't seem completely biased. So now Christmas songs and the Monster Mash will chart once a year and such and such? No.

If you think it's a silly rule though then you should be FOR their decision to change it. How they handled Michael's songs is in the past, is basically a sunk cost, it can't be changed. It shouldn't have anything to do when debating aout whether or not old songs should be able to chart starting now.

I agree. I actually don't mind if they let her re-chart, but they shouldn't have executed anything until they released a statement and it should have started on a whole new week. Just like Britney's "Blackout" album, her only album not to reach number one, had last minute changes. She had sales that was going for her, she was heading for her next number one album but Billboard changed the rules last minute before the week even ended which made her debut at number two. They should have done it on a whole new week, not during the week.
