Gaga's videos tend to spark controversy within the media. But are they really that controversial as so many make them out to be? Gaga's videos, though great artistically and cinematography wise, seem to be labeled "controversial" when I personally don't think they are. In fact, I find them immensely tamed compared to prior videos I've seen from several different artists.
She got religious groups riled up with the imagery in 'Alejandro' and upset many with the Diner death scene in 'Telephone' but to me that's child's play compared to videos like: Justify my love, Erotica and Like a prayer. Gaga's video are also made with the purpose to be "shocking" and I find them to be anything but.
I would even say M.I.A. 'Born free' video is more shocking and controversial than any music video Gaga has done to date or probably will ever do. The creation of 'Born free' also seems less contrived.
I'm a Gaga fan so this thread isn't meant to be shady by any means, just curious to how others feel on the matter. Discuss.
The only video that sparked controversy was Alejandro. Toying with religious imagery always has those kind of results. And having a video blasted on Fox News doesn't count as controversy.
Yes, she uses symbolic symbols, and messes with religion. The symbols stir controversy for those conspiracy theorists, and the religious graphics "offends" religious people.
Sometimes she does it on purpose, sometimes she does it to be "original" () and "artistic".
Nothing she has ever done has offended me, and I don't see what the big deal is.

This.
Her videos have always been long, overly-done, and unnecessarily superfluous. Only one was actually controversial.

The only "controversial" video she has made was "Alejandro." And that was only because she was toying around with religious symbols, which is like the protocol to creating backlash.
