Rick Santorum Accuses Obama Of 'Hubris' And 'Snobbery' For Wanting All U.S. Kids To Attend College



The most animated exchange of former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum's Saturday morning event in Manchester, N.H. came when he called out President Obama for his "hubris" and "snobbery" for proclaiming that all U.S. children should get a college education.

It was a memorable moment during the 30-minute question and answer session with the Pennsylvania Republican, winning him a nice applause from the crowd. The argument feeds into several narratives, whether it is Obama's alleged elitism or the intrusion of government into different facets of personal life. But Santorum could have chosen a better setting to unveil the new line. The event took place at St. Anselm's college.

To be fair, advocating every kid go to college is stupid. Trade schools should be encouraged more.

But to call it "snobbery?"

There is absolutely nothing wrong with advocating higher education.

For EVERYONE? That's a waste of money for a lot of people

But at the same time, President Obama isn't discouraging other post-HS options; he's just encouraging higher education.

If he were patronizing those that pursue other options, I would agree with you.

His numbers are rising in South Carolina fast. All of the bible belt will start falling behind him

Obama needs to stay in the seat!

Since when are auto-mechanics smart in other arenas besides cars? It might be a good paying job for a kid that doesn't need a job and will have their daddy pay for everything. And of course you'd love your child no matter what they decide to do with their life, but the goal in America should be for every person to receive a college education.

This just goes to show that no matter what Barack Obama cannot win with the republicans. How could anyone disagree with him for wanting every child to receive the best possible education?

I know, right? But I can understand why Santorum would be against higher-education. If more people in this country were intelligent he wouldn't have a shot in hell of winning the nomination.

Not to mention, gay rights would actually be...existant!

A car mechanic starts at about $28,000 entry level plus commissions and overtime and come progress up to $50,000 and much more if they begin their own practice. That's much better than a job you can get with MANY college degrees, and it's a necessary profession. How can you say people working as car mechanics are just "mooching off daddy's momey" when they're being PAYED A SALARY, as opposed to having PAY TUITION?

Why would someone who wanted to be an auto technician WASTE their parents money on a college education when they could just attend a trade school and get a respectable, well-paying job with a LOT of career opportunities, and a decent demand WHEREVER they decide to move?

Seriously, what an ignorant thing to say. As if going to college is the only measure of intelligence, or as if "academic" intelligence is the only kind that matters. Disgusting.

Just stop. We don't like you intelligent types coming 'round these parts.

Being an auto-mechanic is a respectable, paying job. Why do people look down on jobs like this? Someone has to do them, if everyone was an academic nothing would ever get done.

Well now he sounds stupid. Auto-mechanics are included 'career training', 'vocational training', and 'apprenticeships'.

Fair enough, I just wanted to play Devil's Advocate a bit, because I know there's people out there who think like Gradua10n. A college degree is not an instant ability to be employed, and we NEED people to do jobs that don't require a college degree. I am NOT here for the demeaning of blue collar workers.
