For once I agree with him. College degrees don't mean **** if everybody has one.

If all you're after is status, then no. But if we actually went back to valuing higher education for its ability to develop critical thinking and advanced knowledge, then it doesn't matter how many people go to college. In fact, in an economy with increasingly fewer manufacturing and blue collar jobs (as they all get sent off to China, Indonesia, etc.), then people are going to need more education to find work.

That last sentence kind of proves his point, doesn't it?

How? Labor jobs in this country have been severely diminished over the past few decades. The biggest sectors in the U.S. right are skilled professions in the high-tech field that require further education. However, college tuition continues to rise, making it increasingly unaffordable for many students. I think Obama's desire to make higher education accessible for everybody is great, and perfectly reasonable.

Oh well. I'm going to college because I don't like working with my hands and I'm a ****** ass employee. Thanks Obama for the encouragement.

How anyone could argue against everyone having the opportunity for affordable higher education is beyond me. Shouldn't the goal of the government be to ensure everyone has an equal chance to succeed in the world? AND RECEIVING AN EDUCATION IS THE BEST WAY TO ENSURE WE ALL HAVE THAT EQUAL OPPORTUNITY. Being uneducated is not attractive to anyone, no matter the profession.

I agree, but the worry of the market over crowding with those who have bachelors and yet another degree being added to be competitive is a valid one.

This isn't a dumb comment. It's just Santorum's perspective. But I disagree with him, and he has no right to call Obama a "snob".

I mean it's embarrassing how stupid some celebrities are. Education is important.

I agree with Jameson though, trade schools aren't nearly emphasized enough in the United States. My HS really emphasized them while I was there
