With all this Jessica and Nick chatter, I'd be remiss not to have some juice on ASHLEE SIMPSON. A pal of the singer tells me she's gone back into the studio to record a new single for a re-release of her current album, I Am Me. Why? I'm told that Interscope Records honcho JIMMY IOVINE is on a mission to turn the 21-year-old into the next GWEN STEFANI. "He has given her what he thinks is a sure pop hit," my source reports. "It's the first song she's recorded that she didn't write." The source says that Simpson is lucky that Stefani is pregnant. "Gwen isn't about to do anything right now, so Jimmy can work on Ashlee," the source says. "The album has done okay, but he wants to add this single to really have it take off."

So pretty much what Jimmy Iovine is saying is that "We didn't give a what about Ash the first time so we let her release whatever she wanted!" But it will be interesting to hear this "sure pop hit" Also don't most artists re-release w/ at least two or three new tracks???

This album got old back December. Besides, my taste in music has changed a bit since and Simpson isn't really a listening priority for me anymore. But anyway, there is no need to re-release the album. Potential hits lay within the current tracklisting, her pimp (Daddy) just doesn't realize it.

WORD. "Boyfriend" was a good single, but "L.O.V.E." is terrible and the best songs on the album are being completely passed over as singles (mentioned numerous times to include "In Another Life" and "Beautifully Broken").

And for the record, I hope that Joe Simpson isn't making all the decisions on single releases, because his track record is pretty bad. Between both Simpson sisters they have a combined total of 2 top 10 hits in the US.... c'mon now

I think Ash's label is making Joe take the back seat this time which is why Jimmy Iovine is picking the single but this hasn't been confirmed yet so we'll see...

How did i know that they would do this? I always knew that if her album wasn't like, huge they would do their best to make it so. I would love for them to release 'in another life' but it doesnt make sense as it isnt going to push the album back into the top 50 or anything which is where the album would sell a significant amount. I'm all excited for this new single though, Gwen's amazing so this should be awesome. :heart:

Why have a re-release???

it's not gonna help sales one bit so why bother re-releasing it.

"L.O.V.E." ruined the album - not that it was doing great before, though. Anywayz, guess she still has good songs on it, there's no need for a re-release, just release the third single and live with the fact that the album will sell at best 1 million or something like that.

No, the problems of IAM isn't fully on single selection:

What's been keeping Ashlee down is the SNL incident that happend during "Shadow." After that Saturday night when America saw her do some sort of hoedown, and after she allegedly lip synched, the "I hate Ashlee" bandwagon grew immensely. This wagon rolled onto the Orange Bowl half time show when she performed, and we heard more boos and nags out of it. And today, some radio stations have refused, and still refuse to play her songs, because of their still very negative view of the singer. A lot of people aren't willing to forgive the singer for that incident, and hating her has become seemingly the trendy thing to do. (Especially by people who don't even listen to mainstream music at all, and by people who are looking for some comedic/ratings/"let's make me and us cooler" material to use.) A lot of people wouldn't even take in Ashlee's side of the story, and yet some of them would allow Hilary Duff to pass with performance at the AMAs as well as R. Kelly's performance at the VMAs.

But a lot of the blame should be towards her, and her agents/managers.
1.) Billboard Music Awards: Ashlee + Pretty Ricky = WTF? That shouldn't have happend.
2.) I don't think she really did that much effective promotion before releasing her 2nd CD.
3.) If she was smart, she would've been on Oprah, who has the respect of millions, to explain and plee her case about the Orange Bowl and SNL as well as to promo the 2nd CD. (Either that or some other big widely known program)
4.) Her music videos have been really bad compared to the ones she released in Autobiography in my view. LOVE and Boyfriend, when it came to the video, was very uneffective in promoting the singles.
5.) Joe Simpson...I don't think this needs anymore explanation.
6.) And obviously, she is still at fault for the SNL lip synching incident.

Her best bet to go onto her Junior Alblum, and really work on it. She's able to have a bigger jam than "Pieces of Me," while retaining the respect and fandom she once had.

She should release Eyes Wide Open, Say Goodbye, or Catch Me When I Fall if she wants any sort of recognition by people.

Autobiography was released before the new billboard format. That's why a lot of her singles did poorly. Plus the whole SNL incident.

Ya I'm guessing Pieces Of Me would have gone to #1 if it had this current system.

Ashlee should release I Am Me as a single. She needs a real rock song and I Am Me is it. That song would be huge.
