Some of you are missing the point. I can't picture many people caring about an album full of adult contemporary tracks by Britney when it's mainly her dance/up tempo tracks that people love her for. However, I can see Christina doing it because that's sorta her bread and butter, and a lot of that has to do with her being a "good" vocalist.

Why does she
have to do that, though? Britney does Pop music very well. She has been forward-thinking in Pop music for a lot of albums in her career. People like you who don't like her don't know anything, so you come with the cliched insults. But in reality, a lot of her albums have been dubbed as being quite progressive for her as an artist, and within the industry.
So from yours, and a lot of others POV...Britney will bomb because she will likely continue to be progressive in making Pop music. But Christina will probably outdo her because she can maybe find her balance in something else? Christina has gone from bubblegum Pop, the mess that was
Stripped, the jazz-inspired/overdone
Back To Basics, to trying to jump into the dance/pop bandwagon with
Bionic, and continued to ruin her name, relevancy, sales and little impact along the way. She's a foot above Jessica Simpson, who also kept trying to find herself changing styles, even going into country. A foot above, though the sales are now mutual.
I don't think just because Christina can "mold" herself into different genres will save her. She's done it before, and got worse each time. She's just not a name people care about. And that's why Britney will always be above.
