Why Avril Lavigne Sucks Now
Once upon a time, Avril Lavigne made amazing music. Her debut album, 2002's
Let Go, was released when she was only 17 years old, and the album consisted of catchy pop/rock tunes with personal lyrics that everyone can relate to. Sure her image was very poser-like, as her music wasn't even close to being "punk", as she claimed, and sure she was a douchebag constantly dissing Britney Spears in the press for no reason, but hey, she made great music.
In 2004 she released the AMAZING
Under My Skin, which was another angsty pop/rock album, some songs even reminded me a bit of Evanescence ("Take Me Away", her best song ever #8#). Lyrically a lot of the songs were about how she wasn't going to take s**t from guys (the first two singles, "Don't Tell Me" and "My Happy Ending"

, and all-around it was just an excellent album and this was more mature and personal than
Let Go. I also thought this was when she looked her best. She started dressing more feminine but still edgy at the same time, and her hair and make-up looked fantastic (although she got a little too eyeliner happy in this particular photo :P ). To me this is when Avril was really maturing as an artist and
ACTUALLY BEING HERSELF. The only problem here though was that she was
still dissing Britney for no reason... and Hilary Duff. :
What the f**k is this s**t?! In 2007 ALL OF A SUDDEN OUT OF NOWHERE, she was the biggest girly girl ever. OMGZ I'M SO GIRLY I HAVE PINK STREAKS IN MY HAIR NOW LYK OMGZ!!11 Pink streaks? Seriously? HOW OLD ARE YOU AGAIN?! Honestly I was never crazy about the super blonde hair either. It's kind of cute but I think the light brunette hair she was sporting during the UMS era complimented her more. But anyway, the song "Girlfriend" wasn't any better, that song screamed cheesy high school s**t and was a HUGE downgrade from the first two albums. "Hell yeah, I'm the motherf**kin' princess"? That's right up there with Pink saying "Let's get dancey". I'll admit the chorus was kinda catchy but other than that, f**k that s**tty ass excuse for a song. Oh, and what made all of this even funnier is that ALL OF A SUDDEN she went from saying all this trash about Britney to her saying ~Britney is my inspiration~. She had a big feud with Hilary Duff in 2004, Avril said she didn't like that she was a "Mommy's girl", but ALL OF A SUDDEN she says this to Seventeen magazine:
Way to stay true to yourself, motherf**ker.

For the
Goodbye Lullaby era, I was having a hard time deciding what was more ridiculous - her constant Maxim spreads or her green streaks, so I posted both. So yeah, she was getting ready to release her first album since 2007, and so many fans were waiting for an announcement, and instead of giving an announcement about her MUSIC, she poses for Maxim for the 375th time thinking that she is a sex kitten when really she's a f**king poser. I've seen other popstars pose for Maxim and look HOT, Christina Aguilera's 2007 photoshoot comes to mind, but she just looks like she's trying too hard to be someone she's not.
Then she releases "What The Hell" and my reaction to that song was literally, WHAT THE HELL. I kinda assumed after
The Best Damn Thing, she would go back to doing music like her first two albums, kinda like Jewel with
0304. Jewel said that was an album she needed to get off her chest, well I assumed the same thing with TBDT. Boy was I wrong. Anybody who compares that piece of s**t to
My December has lost their damn mind. Based on the album cover you'd except UMS-type songs but instead we get pure cheese like "What The Hell" and "Smile". People say "Wish You Were Here" is a step up, UM NO. The beat is cheesy and the lyrics are even worse - "Damn, damn, damn" - is she seriously running out of things to say? And WHAT IN THE f**k are with those green streaks?! YOU'RE 27 YEARS OLD. NOT 13. STOP TRYING TO DRESS LIKE A f**kING HOT TOPIC EMPLOYEE. GOD.
So yes, that is why people hate "new" Avril Lavigne. She basically went from an awesome pop/rock star to a cheesy ***** who didn't stay true to herself one bit. It's quite ironic too because if you listen to the lyrics to her debut single, "Complicated", she's singing about someone whose changed and isn't staying true to themself. She turned into a hypocrite of herself.
