"Back to Basics" is an album that uses samples amazingly.

Some samples can make good songs, some make bad songs. It all depends on how it's produced, the quality of the song, etc.

I will say that this new trend of dumb **** rappers using catchy beats from indie songs to make radio hits is annoying as **** though. Especially when the originals are all miles better.

Well, "In music, sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or a different sound recording of a song or piece".

I love hip-hop, I really do, but quite honestly one of my biggest gripes with the genre is the fact that it is built almost entirely on sampling. I'm not against sampling in general, in fact when it is done with real effort and creativity behind it, it can be a brilliant thing. But building a whole genre/career out of it is a bit lazy, tbh.

OKAY.... nowadays it is VERY COMMON to sample.

For example.... The most successful song in the recent years (I GOTTA FEELING) samples 'LOVE IS GONE' by the same producer (David Guetta)

When it's used correctly, it can become real good. An example would be Otis, they didn't over do the song and only took a bit from it, then adding their own production on top of it.

Then when used incorrectly it could sounds as if an artists doesn't want to be original or is lazy. I can't think of a badly sampled song right now

It depends on the producers and if you use the sample in an creative way or not

I think that when done well, then samples can be amazing.
Just because a sample has been used, doesn't make a song unoriginal. It all depends how it's been incorporated.

I think it's great and it shows how timeless a particular piece of work can be. This song is responsible for many hits in the 90s and 00s.

IT depends.
When you sample an old song liike On the Floor, its a great way to sample a song.
But when you sample new songs, that's disturbing.
BUT sometimes, sampling is not made on porpuse.
I already gave this example a couple of times which is about Judas by Lady gaga.
Her song is sampled from another song (new too) but she didn't knew that.
That's what happens when people use the same packs
I prefer when people makes them own song, that sampling others.

Some sampling are okay. BEP is so famous for sampling other artist's choruses...
