Both songs stayed at #1 for 7 weeks in 2007 (Irreplacable a total of 10 weeks), and both enjoyed great worldwide success. Take into account worldwide peaks & sales and also the impact each left. Which is more iconic?
I think "Umbrella" did more for Rihanna than "Irreplaceable" did for Beyonce. I don't even think "Irreplaceable" is Beyonce's signature hit. "Crazy In Love" and "Single Ladies" were easily her signature song.
I don't know but Umbrella is a better song and that's that
I remember for a while though you could NOT turn on the radio without hearing Irreplaceable...

But both are very iconic indeed. "To the left, to the left" and "Um-bur-ella-ella-ella-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh" are both very, very, very notable.
For the simple fact that people say "To the left" far more often than people say "Ella ella ella, eh, eh, eh". I mean, there used to be a time where Rihanna references (and another popstar too, but that's besides the point ) were made all the time whenever an umbrella was pulled out, but not anymore. I can't recall the last time I've heard an Umbrella reference, whereas I still hear and say "to the left".
