I love Britney, but there is very little dubstep in "Freakshow". There are definitely dubstep influences on Blackout, and she's picked it back up for Femme Fatale, but Rihanna was one of the first American artists to totally utilize dubstep in her songs. Not just a breakdown or anything, but real, undeniable dubstep.

They're obviously referring to "Hold It Against Me" and it's not the first time she has experimented with dubstep. Pitchfork spilled the REAL tea:

It has become a trend in generic clubs. All clubs in my town are now playing dubstep once a week... but i wouldnt say this was particularly Rihanna^^ ... anyway dubstep is trending and who knows maybe she supported the trend...

Yes but Freakshow wasn't even released as a single like WYT was. No one really caught on to it till Rihanna did it through out her whole album not just one track that samples a few seconds of it.

No, she wasn't. Britney, on Blackout, had maybe 10 seconds of dubstep on 2 or 3 songs. Rihanna had 2 whole songs of dubstep and about a minute of dubstep on another. Most other songs on Rated R also had maybe at least 10 seconds of dubstep on them. No one really noticed the dubstep on Blackout, whereas WYT is constantly remembered for its dubstep sound.

I really doubt it. When you listen to hard and grimy dubstep, the last thing you think about is "Madhouse".

The fact that the album (including “Freakshow”) wasn’t promoted at all doesn’t change the fact that Britney did it first.

Those hipsters are such Britney haters, they need to deal with the fact everyone can do it and use it, she did an amazing job compiling dubstep with pop music, in HIAM, Seal It With A Kiss, TTWE Remix and Freakshow. I still want to hear Rihanna's dubstep songs
